Description
EDIT: Uploaded Printscan. The negscan was actually just as good in some areas, but the printscan has the full frame and some nicer tones. I prefer the cleaner border of the negscan, but oh well.I took this photograph yesterday. For once i have a story to go along with it.
I was helping some friends from college carry equipment to a location down by the riverside. After I'd said goodbye to them, walked for about 10 minutes through town, before realising I'd forgotten to give them the lightstand i had in my backpack. So after returning it to them, i took a different route back to the train station.
I walked past a dingy pub and saw two old men talking outside, i thought about taking a shot, but didn't because i would have had to stop and they would notice me. Just as I was walking past the pub, one of them men started walking the way i was headed while pulling out a cigarrette. I walked on, pre-focused on the ground where he would appear, and waited for him.
However, instead of walking round, he just leaned his head round the corner for a second - I got my shot in that second. For once, the whole thing just felt very fluid, and natural and I knew i had the shot i wanted. It wasn't until i'd scanned the shot in that i realised he's not even looking at me in the shot, which i was really pleased about.
Developed the roll (delta 400+1)today in some ID11 at 1:1. Will be printing this next week hopefully.
M6, 35mm, probably f8 at 1/500.

Nice capture, I love the "your choice" in the top corner vs the man who's just lighting is cigarette. Sod it, smoking is art! Nice work mate

Thanks
I didn't even notice that sign until i scanned the neg today, but as scotland was subjected to the smoking in public places ban nearly one year ago, I'll say it was intentional and photojournalistic of me.

You should, that would be rather professional I went to scotland last year, had a good time outside the pub with my fellow smokers. Shitty weather and smoking bans bring people together.
