The stock and receiver and action remind me exclusively of the 7.5mm French Mle 1949 and M49/56 semi-automatic Battle rifles.

True. When coming up with guns for science-fiction/fantasy senerios- best to use more obscure makes and models- these work grwat!

True- but pre-1950 french guns were widely used in both world wars by multiple factions, if for all else they happened to be available at a given time.
