Description
That's the Covenant Plasma Rifle I made for a friend, so he can use it as props for cosplay (to go with his masterchief cosplay)It's made of MDF, covered with a layer of resin, then painted using gesso and acrylics.

Impressive work! I would suggest LEDs as an upgrade on it, but since its covered in resin and already painted, that would be so much more of a problem 'xD

MDF stands for Medium Density Fiberboard : it's a type of processed wood.

It's really common, you find some in any hardware store, in any country. Also almost all props makers use (or have used) MDF at some point in their creations.

I may check Lowes hardware before i leave for work.. I just had an idea if your up to it. Try making the Rail Gun from Halo 4.

I'm curious about the way you process your props : you seem to use craft foam, isn't it ? Do you usually make your props out of many layers that you glue together before adding details, or are they only 1 layer that you sculpt to add details ?

I use extruded polystyrene. It's normally used for house insulation but if you know me, I alwys find a way out of the rulebook.
