A little tribute to Frank Gorshin who was The Riddler in the 60's Batman TV show. And totally the coolest Riddler ever.For those of you who watch the 60's Batman, then you know how freaking awesome Gorshin is. For those of you who haven't seen it, man you are seriously missing out. He is an absolute treat to watch fall into psychosis. He one of the few people who can make me grin like a dumbass the whole time he's on and laugh like a maniac.
Anyways yeah, I just had to draw the guy, he's awesome. Gave it a bit of a different style as well. I'm also planning a much bigger Batman picture and I wanted to get use to drawing Gorshin as The Riddler so expect to see him again.

Frank Gorshin is the Riddler Prime. And he always will be. Even through Jim Carry tried to be the Riddler he lacks Gorshin's seriousness when he's thinking of a planΒ and Gorshin'sΒ maniacal laughter when his plans to kill the Batman seems to work. Hell, Gorshin's laughter would give the 60's Joker a run for his money!
If you haven't watched Gorshin act as the Riddler yet. Then you're missing out! Go and get the first Batman Season 1 and 3Β on DVD, the Batman Movie and Legauge of Superheroes. The Batman Season 1 DVD boxset will cost quite a bit of money, $34.99 for it. The good news is that it'll have almost all of the batman shows that Frank Gorshin's been in. Gorshin sadly didn't do Season 2 (He was too busy acting in the movies at the time.) and only came back forΒ one more espoide in the third season.
Gorshin did 8 episodes in the first season and onlyΒ 1 episodes in the third season bringing the total toΒ 9 episodes plus the one hourΒ movie. Gorshin came back as the Riddler in League of Superheroes after season 3 of Batman was over for one more lastΒ episode. That was Gorshin's final appearance as the Riddler. He retired for good after that. Season 1 the first and second halves of Season 2, the Batman movie and League of Superheroes are already out on DVD now. The third season of Batman will be out on DVD by Nov 3, 2015.
Gorshin only did 10 episodes in total and did one movie as the Riddler. Wish he did more episodes through. Still, 10 episodes and one movie is pretty good for 1960.

I absolutely LOVE this!!! Been looking for a good pic of Gorshin in the suit, although I would prefer he had the hat on as well. I was wondering if you would be open to the idea of me using this as a tattoo? Also, have you done one of Romero, or West in the same style?

As a personal tattoo for yourself? Sure, I'd love to see a picture of it if you get it. I haven't drawn Romero yet and I hadn't planned onΒ one soon, but if I ever do I'll let you know.

Gorshin's portrayal of Riddler (back when I was watching the re-reruns as a wee tot) is why I am such a fan of the character.Β He was amazing!
And this piece captures him so well.

I never liked Jim Carrey's performance as the Riddler. He couldn't TOUCH Frank's energy, or even his humor.
This was his breakaway role, after being in Hollywood for YEARS!!!
He is my absolute favorite Riddler of all. He's even better than the one in the comic book.

This is a great Riddler art piece and a grand tribute to Frank Gorshin, indeed the best Riddler! Though I do have to say, I do love Jim Carrey's Riddler too. But Jim's would be number 2 to Frank's number 1!
It's been a while since I've said "Hello!" to you. How's life? I hope it's going well. I've been quite busy my direction. I think I've been busier being out of work than I was when I was when I was employed. I'm looking forward to seriously getting work again once I finish my school here in Texas. That'll be in March 2013.
Anyway, I'm loving the Batman art your creating. Keep up the great work!

Awesome! This is one of the best Gorshin version Riddler fanarts I've stumbled across. And yay, I'm not the only one who grins uncontrollably while watching him in the TV series! And movie. And heck, that silly Legends of the Superheros. He's like the whole reason I hunted that down and bought the dvd in the first place.
That song got stuck in my head for days, too.

I must say, though, that Wally Wingert(The Arkham games) has replaced him in my mind as the best Riddler, but he's still the best live-action version of him.
Jim Carrey could have been awesome, if they based his performance more on Gorshin. The giggling is the thing everyone seems to remember Gorshin for, but that was just a part of his performance; he could go from giggling to sinister and almost psychotic in an instant.
It's difficult to imagine what kind of a Riddler we'd have without the 60's live-action version of him, since he had such an impact on the character. Would we even have The Riddler anymore? He certainly wouldn't be such a well-known part of Batman's rogue's gallery.
(He probably wouldn't wear green suits and bowler hat either.)

I loved Jim Carrey and Batman Forever. But he still wasn't as awesome as Gorshin. He was just hands down the craziest Riddler and he actually brought depth to the character even in the old campy 60's show.

Gorshin was/is hands-down the best Riddler, ever. I am always amazed that despite how campy the show was, he was really a very deep and psychotic character. He played the role so seriously and I loved watching him.
