Some demons are a bit more subtle than others when it comes to the art of possession. Imps are possibly the most subtle, eschewing the violence and wracking, sudden deformations that accompanies most possession.

The presence of an Imp in one's body starts off as nothing more than a voice in someone's head, alien urges poking at the edges of their mind. And even this is noticed only if the host in question is remarkably perceptive. Most of the time the Imp is so subtle its host simply believes the whispering commands of the possessing entity is actually her own thoughts.

Over time the Imp's suggestions and commands grow more towards its own likings, changing the host's behaviour, diet and ways of thought inch by inch. Only after the host has voluntarily given up most of her own independent thought and sense of self does the Imp start in with the physical changes. And even then it is a slow process, a bit of extra muscle mass here, a slight reduction in fatty tissue there, a hardening of the epidermis over there.

The result is like a bonsai tree, the host reduced to a withered parody of her former self, but still perfectly suited to the possessing Imp's wants and needs.
