Different dimensions follow different rules. Entities from these dimensions follow one of two paths when possessing a host from our dimension: They either try to adapt their own perceptions to the rules and constants of our universe, or they try to alter their host bodies and local environment to mimic their home dimension.

Spectres follow the latter path. From a dimension where 'light' as we know it simply doesn't exist, the Spectre is intensely uncomfortable in the presence of any visible light. As such, once possessing a host body, Spectres immediately try to create a light-less environment around themselves.

Of course they make drastic alterations to their host body to aid in this, creating a semi-spiritual gas of some sort that not only blocks out all ambient light in their local environment, but also appears to completely jam any sort of electromagnetic sensors, be they infrared, ultraviolet, or otherwise. Needless to say, this makes them incredibly dangerous hunters once they've altered their local environment to their own tastes.
