What had initially prevented Terran expansion into the hostile areas of the Milky Way was the misguided belief that more weaponry on a craft made it invincible. Even the fast-tracking batteries on Izumi class craft (like the frigates shown here) could not combat more nimble craft.

After five years of winning only by sheer numbers, Terran Naval Command began to rethink their "bigger can do anything" philosophy, and began deploying their ships more carefully. Task Force Theta Alpha (pictured) was one of the test cases that proved most successful. The ratio of two interceptors to one frigate proved exceptionally potent against small to medium pirate strongholds, and even determined attacks by Jeetendra aggressors could be successfully countered if the task force commander was more creative than average.
