dud, where did you get the texture for the foreground planet? i've never seen anything like it
it's nice!
good light effects, and starscape.
i particularly like the filtered light effect like in a forest (not that there's one in space, but clouds can also do that, and you have those out there)

Thank you for the comments!

The planet texture was made using 5 or 6 different textures I collected over time. then I just used various blending modes to combine them for the planet

The sky looks kind of like a water color wash, very cool. The stars could glow a little more and be a little dimmer near the bigger brighter stars. Other than that the shading on the planet begins a little abruptly, but I guess that is cool. As a whole, a really nice piece.

Thank you!
The small planet was much more gradually shaded until I shrank it down, so I need to watch for that in the future, I'll also take your other notes into consideration for new pieces

No problem man, keep up the great work, and I look forward to becoming a member of inner-space at some point. ::cough cough:: I already sent the note. Anyway, take it easy.

As others said, top-left corner rules
the starfield is simple indeed, but it looks really ok in this scene. The space is mostly simple stars (no nebulas etc). Maybe if you add some little glowing to them...
The planet... I like it's appearance: the details are really nice

Thank you!
I'm glad the minimal starfield worked and I'll work on tweaking glow in later deviations

Great work from you, as usual. I love seeing each new piece of yours, and the planet in this by the way in my opinion is absolutely great!

Very pretty. Technical terms, seeing as I know so much about whatever you did to make that. Pretty.

Yes I agree .. the top left corner is awesome.. as well as the stars and gradient you used.. the planets are ok but could be better

Thank you!
And if you have any tips/advice for the planets it is much appreciated!

oblivion2kx In reply to Doc-Shadow [2005-06-04 19:44:40 +0000 UTC]

Well .. those planets are very good and probably better than what I could make... I would suggest though that you sharpen the point where the light hits the planet and then slowly kinda fade away into maybe a dark area on the planet or complete darkness... that would be a good effect

Doc-Shadow In reply to oblivion2kx [2005-06-05 18:05:46 +0000 UTC]

hey, your planets are real good, so don't mark yourself down there.
Good suggestion, I'll be playing around with more shading/lighting stuff... I just figure out a good way of doing it, right now hand shading isn't working to good for me.

I think the planets need some work, but I really like the top left corner!

Thanks for the comment!
It would also be great to discuss things I can do to work on my planets with you, if you have any suggestions please send me a note, I keep running into walls on what areas I need to work on for my planets.
