Description
Back in Feb. / March of this year, we attended the AZ Renaissance Festival [link] where I always take tons of pictures. This year I even stopped a few people and asked them specifically if I could shoot them, as was the case especially with our 'wizard' of this piece. The man was very friendly, but I was captivated by his look and his enormous, wizened hands. The girl (our fairy), was just someone in a set of wings (I elaborated the costume here), drinking a slushee cup. She seemed to belong in some setting, and I finally found it when I coupled her, albiet in different dimensions, with our cloaked friend, here. Really wanted to get the shading on those hands, and I'm happy with the results...10-ish hours. Micron, Pen & Ink on Strathmore 400, 9x12ish

Doc, I always love coming to your page and looking at your work, but on this one, I was amazed! This picture, by far, is one of your bests. I don't know if it was because of the inspiration for it or what, but you went above and beyond with this picture. Really, bravo. If I had a hat, it would be off

Very nicely done. There's a lot of wisdom and strength to that wizard and even some in the fairy. There is so much great work in this, but the hair, the hands especially stand out and I love how you have done his staff as well.

Forgive me, Scott, for having taken so long to fav this one. I really think you nailed it. Your lines are beautiful and the addition of the fairy really creates a story.

Wonderful work, Doc! I love the treatment of the hands and face, and I think I would love stripped stockings on anything, lol! My favorite part, however, is the way that you used the directional hatching on the clothing and the implied lines on the fairies stockings.
Many times, older folks are such beautiful character studies. All those nice, craggy lines and such. Very nice level of detail! Keep up the fine, fine work, my friend! Looks like a fave to me.

PS- would you have done a full background, or do you think it would have been too busy then, taking away from the figures?
