First appearing in August Derleth's short story "The Lair of the Star-Spawn", Zhar and his "brother" Lloigor (known as the Twin Obscenities) are originally from a planet orbiting the star Arcturus, but now dwell beneath the buried city of Alaozar.Confusingly, Colin Wilson later wrote a short story in which the Lloigor are a race of alien energy beings with no relation to the Twin Obscenities.

(1) Lloigor and Zhar have even been described as connected by 1 or more shared tentacles. Also these gods were killed in "Lair of the Star Spawn" ,but are afterwards described as dwelling at or near Arcturus - a direct contradiction ! The "Lair" yarn was a primitive first effort, either by Derleth or his collaborator, who alternated in plotting and writing a collection of stories, which I have. The other 2 mythos pieces were "Spawn of the Maelstrom" and "The Horror from the Depths". both of which involve the star-stones bearing the Elder Sign .
(2) The Colin Wilson tale is "Return of the Lloigor" the concluding story in a collection of mythos tales. It has a sequel named "The Philospher's Stone" in which some researchers use a mind-expansion procedure to be able to meet the Great Old Ones face to face -as their equals ! The story combines elements from "Shadow out of Time" and "Forbidden Planet" ! The ill-fated researchers from "Return" are referenced in "Philosopher's Stone", but the Lloigor ,etc., are otherwise not involved.
