Description Sorry i've resubmitted it because I thought it didn't make sense to have to download the file to view it and dA doesn't let you remove the preview image.

This is a tutorial i've written that follows pretty much the same process as my previous tutorials but the result of this is an actual vector (i.e. scalable) not an imitation.

Again sorry about the resubmission but that was annoying me

Enjoy.

So? When people create images in Illustrator they are sometimes exported as JPEGs and if not PNGs; which aren't scalable either. Just because the exported file isn't scalable doesn't mean the original image isn't vector.

Do you see many people posting vector Illustrator images on deviantART as SVGs or PDFs?

Following this tutorial you can scale the PSD to any size (100x if you wish) without pixelation.

hmm.... very confusing.... how, with a mouse, am i supposed to draw the outline? if i actually paid over $50 for PhotoShop, couldnt it do it itself?

donbenni In reply to stephenavery [2006-11-05 22:01:11 +0000 UTC]

You use the pen tool to draw out paths and then fill or stroke the paths as required. Photoshop doesn't do it itself, that would defeat the point of having artistic talent.

this is an awesome tutorial, and i'm so glad i cam across it. i only have one question that i can't find an answer to anywhere (this may sound really stupid, and if it is, please forgive me but i'm a newb): what kind of file do you save your vector as in photoshop to make it a truly scalable vector?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

donbenni In reply to kayliesaurus-rex [2006-09-14 12:06:15 +0000 UTC]

Hey thanks. I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I save mine just in PSD format and just scale the whole document (as covered in the tutorial) to change make use of the image's vector abilities.

is this tutorial only applicable to photoshop cs? because i'm using photoshop 7.0.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

donbenni In reply to zeniram-anibru [2006-09-05 14:13:47 +0000 UTC]

I don't know for sure. Certainly some parts of it can only be done in CS, but i believe you should be able to do the main bits in 7.0. Give it a try and see.

Great Work! Is there a specific reason you do your vectors in Photoshop rather than Illustrator?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

donbenni In reply to thecreativ1 [2006-08-31 00:02:48 +0000 UTC]

I'm just more familiar with Photoshop than Illustrator that's all If i was ever to do any "real" vectoring i would of course use Illustrator though, Photoshop doesn't match it in any way, shape or form as a vectoring tool

M-e-t-a-l In reply to donbenni [2006-08-27 15:55:33 +0000 UTC]

Just the coloring stuff mainly, like, I get how you did the block coloring for the spoiler, but not how you did it for the details on the body. Also, is doing the gradient coloring just like doing it on your other tutorial?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

donbenni In reply to M-e-t-a-l [2006-08-27 18:52:24 +0000 UTC]

No it is completely different. The point of this tutorial is that the end result is scalable (i.e. a vector) so you can blow the picture up to 20000 x 15000 pixels and take it to a printers and get them to print it off as a poster. You can't follow the same method as my previous tutorials if you want the image to be scalable.
