Description Not actually a character I've had any experience with in the games or anything, I guess I just thought Orcamon was a cute orca-whale type character.

For the past few days I've deliberated on whether I should censor this piece for dA, but I've read dA's submission rules carefully (a number of times) and this piece is not breaking any of them. Plus the uncoloured linework (crotch area and all) has been in my dA gallery for well over a year and hasn't received any complaints or been taken down.

I really don't like censoring work if it's not necessary - and I think I'm actually pretty sensible and restrained in regards to what I post here on deviantART. I sometimes make artwork that is more mature-themed - but... I am an adult - so I really don't see the problem with it.

If you do find this piece offensive, well... I can only say that I'm sorry - and that if you do - and you can't take a piece like this with good humour - you probably shouldn't be watching my account here.

To actually talk about the artwork: you might notice I had to redraw her face a little bit - the mouth was placed a little awkwardly on the original linework.

I think this Digimon was one of those armor egg forms. I might be wrong though, it's been awhile since I'v done anything Digimon related. But anyway, another character that fits your style perfectly, and the extra thickness is always a bonus. ;>

In regards to mature content, I personally don't see a problem with it as long as kids aren't able to view it (with the mature filter turned on), but there's always that side of me that's too embarrassed to post it myself because I worry that bigger and more professional studios that work in the media, might not take me seriously and lowering my chances of working in the creative media. It really shouldn't matter but unfortunately there are people out there that think otherwise.

It is possible that mature work might put off certain people from working with you - but then again there are those people who respect individuals who aren't afraid to show that kind of work. I wouldn't want to work for a company that has a problem with an artist who does mature work anyway - it's a completely unrealistic expectation of an artist to have never done or to never do mature work. It's the company's failing to not employ or hire somebody based off the fact they've created adult material. If someone is the most talented, amazing, skilled, inventive artist there ever was - is someone really going to be against hiring them because of a few adult pieces of artwork? Who's the real loser in that scenario? The artist or the company who doesn't want to hire them?

H. R. Giger is one artist who specifically comes to mind in regards to having created adult material - the guy who designed the Xenomorphs in the 'Alien' movies. A lot of his work is/was erotic-themed and it didn't do him any harm creating the material he was driven to create. If anything it got him noticed.

I mean, one of the comics I read growing up was 2000AD - y'know, Judge Dredd and all that - and 'Tank Girl' was another comic on the same shelf at the newsagents. Both comic had the occasional adult scene. Tank Girl's boyfriend is an anthropomorphic kangaroo named 'Booga' - both Tank Girl and Booga have been depicted in illustrations of a sexual theme in various published works. One comic strip that was published via 2000AD called 'XTNCT' even showed scenes of a homosexual nature between two female triceratops athropomorphs - and again between two male tyrannosaur anthropomorphs. Both these comics had 'mature content' warnings but were freely purchasable by any young adult.

I guess really - it's all down to your background and the material you grew up with. Nothing I've put up on my dA should really be offensive or shocking to anyone - it's no worse than any material I had access to as a young adult - and - as I have said before - I always tag work mature (strict) if I think it warrants such a tag.

If people really object to this kind of material - especially on a professional level - they need to grow up and get real (you could even argue that it's actually unprofessional for a company to use such an excuse to not employ or hire - or even as grounds to fire or sack somebody).

Adult artwork is nothing new and nothing controversial and not without precedent. Someone who creates adult material is not by default some kind of social deviant and should certainly not be made a pariah. People shouldn't be afraid to create mature-themed artwork - of any kind. It's actually kind of silly to think that blood and guts and illustrations depicting murder and violence are less harmful to a viewer than illustrations depicting sexual contact, passion and love. If someone commits murder or a violent crime they go to jail. If someone falls in love and has a consenting sexual experience is that a crime? No. Of course not. So for a society to mark content featuring the prior (murder and violence) as less mature (or more 'socially acceptable') than the latter (sex and love) seems broken, yeah? Completely objectively speaking. Sober as heck. Stand up in court and tell it to the judge.

To be completely frank, to measure mature artwork as more damaging than work that features violent content is a completely backwards, sheltered and childlike way of looking at the creative world.

I didn't mean to write that long a response, sorry. I'm not at all angry at you for saying what you did (in fact I'm quite happy to have had the opportunity to write all this down in such a coherent manner). So don't take it as a hostile reply. It's just... I had a lot to say in response.

Oh don't worry, I didn't take this comment in the wrong way at all. I'm actually glad to read all of this because now I do feel a lot better about what I can post and not have to feel embarrassed by it, or worry that it'll ruin my chances of working in the creative media. Another good example of an artist that started out making mature content and eventually worked in the professional media is Jhonen Vazquez. He started out making a web comic I believe, that had mature themes like blood and violence, to making a cartoon show for Nickelodeon (Invader Zim).

So yeah, this definitely helped me to not worry so much, and I do agree that it is stupid and childish for a studio to not hire someone because they drew some nudity in the past and whatnot. That'd be like wanting to eat a chef's famous dish but then decide not to because you found out that chef has made other dishes, different from the one you were gonna eat, with raisins in them, which you don't like. That really would be foolish.

So yeah, thanks a lot!

Yeah, she's either outgrown that vest or she's picking out one that's a few sizes too small.

I believe you're not breaking any rules for showing this. I thin kthe DA only block your submit if it's explicit sex.
And since the mature Content's filter is on, so no sweat.

Yeah - it's just I've had people complain about stuff like this in the past - even though I've never broken the rules and I've always tried to use the proper maturity settings.

I should really stop pre-empting such responses in the description though - it's kind of a downer on the artwork to feel like I have to make excuses before anyone has even responded, but IDK, dA users can be an unsympathetic bunch sometimes.

Indeed they can be. Which is a curious think to think about. If they can see this, it means they put the mature content filter off, so you expect to see things like that.
But I think you should not make excuses for posting arts like this. The warning of mature content is there and it's more than enough.

And about the DA, rules, really? You are not breaking anyone? >.>

This piece is not breaking any of dA's content rules, no - and I have marked it completely appropriately as a mature content (strict) piece.

In case you wanted to check, here are the rules: help.deviantart.com/565/

If, however, this piece is taken down by a dA admin or moderator I will not argue with them.
