Description
This is the version of Lightning Spin that I used for the 2002 Hugo Award bases. It was laser-cut from 1/16-inch stainless steel and sat on the upper surface of an octagonal walnut-wood block, with the standard Hugo rocket on top. The center section of the design is the 2002 World Science Fiction Convention logo, simplified for laser cutting.I've put a picture of the actual award in my Scraps. [link]

Tom Whitmore, who picked me for the job, thinks so too, and has said so on several occasions. And I think so, but then I like almost all my stuff. Of course, in typical artist fashion, I occasionally agonize over how I might have done it better. I looked into having the side panels laser-engraved, but the services I could find were booked way in advance. In retrospect, that might have been less elegant. Well, it's done, and I have my designer's copy of the award on my dresser.

"I have my designer's copy of the award..." Which is an honor in and of itself.
