Description Windows 7 Service Pack for XP SP3
(German version by = Peter Rollar here: [link]

Here is the REST of the Windows 7 to XP Transformation Pack- the bits left out of regular transformation packs. These are the files that aren't seen quite as often like Mobile Sync, Briefcase, Camera and Scanner Wizard, etc., but will make your 'Windows 7' much more authentic. In addition, some tricky icons that 'give-away' your XP system have been located and replaced. This pack also includes all updated Control Panel Apps, built from the ground up with icons in the PROPER ordinal sequence derived directly from Windows 7 PNGs. Keystroke underlines have also been removed as they do not appear by default in Windows 7.
This pack is NOT meant to REPLACE your current transformation pack, but to supplement it. It should work with just about any trans pack you have installed. If you don't have one installed, you can find a nice one here: [link] .
Directions:
1. Using WinRar or 7zip Freeware unzip folder to desktop.
2.Use the Replacer utility provided to put the enclosed system files and control panel applets into your Windows/System32 directory.
3. Restart Windows to see your new Control Panel Apps and Wizards. The Wizards can usually be gotten to through the Accesories folder in Start menu\Programs.
4. If your Control Panel icons haven't changed, use the Icon Refresh utility included in the pack.

Special thanks to my good friend = Peter Rollar [link] for his invaluable assistance. Acknowledgement must also go to=Sagorpirbd [link] . Even though my Windows Update and Security applets were built using original Microsoft resources, by neccesity they do resemble his, and he did post his version some time ago.

Windowblinds Aero 7 Xtreme by *InTime69 available here:[link] including Show Desktop with Aeropeek by Cellular [link] .

Finally, please accept my apologies for the screenshot. It's been a long day.

Hey, Dopey, I would like to know, how you moved Explorer Tasks at the bottom like in Windows 7, and can you tell me a way that I can make it look like Windows 7 ?

Just find the Visual Styles sectiion on dA and find one that has a bottom shell (that's what they're called. I'd look through the older Visual Styles, and find one with a Vista look. I don't think any of the Windows 7 Styles for XP have a bottom shell. I'm using WindowBlinds myself.

Hey, Dopey, the preview looks a bit off. Do you have the source file? If so, PNG is way better than JPEG

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DopeySneezy In reply to FaRReR [2010-05-18 02:32:07 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I'm rebuilding the preview in PNG format (with some photoshop effects) as we speak. I just slammed that screenie together at the end of a long day, but never intended it to be permanent.

I always have so many projects going (not just dA) that sometimes quality suffers. But I'll get after it. Promise.

You have my absolute respect, Peter. Do you know how many times while compiling this deviation I asked myself "What the f*ck are you doing?"?

Translating this deviation could not have been an easy task.

Give yourself a llama.

Nice job Dopey! And thanks for showing off Aero Xtreme. When I get a moment, I just might try this out. You really went the extra mile and it looks really great!

P.S.: I will be working on a mega transformation pack sometime this summer or next fall. If it's okay with you, I would like to maybe use some of your mods. And of course, I will credit you and link to this page.

Be my guest, Ian. I'm done modding for XP. I've cleaned up a few files for my other XP posts and will probably fix up the screenshots for posterity, but that's about it. I'd like to apply myself to working with Windows 7 and Vista from now on. I haven't even made one Windows 7 Mod since we got 7. Grrr...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IanITAInc In reply to DopeySneezy [2010-05-10 23:41:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I appreciate it!

You should do a mod that makes Windows 7 look like Windows 7 or a mod that makes Windows 7 look like XP. Now that would be good to post in our non-existing group! I just checked and it doesn't have any deviations yet.

We gotta get cracking!

Jocking aside, good luck with modding Windows 7 and Vista. It's a huge challenge!

DopeySneezy In reply to IanITAInc [2010-05-11 11:52:28 +0000 UTC]

It's pretty daunting... Windows 7 is too new to go messing with the interface. Nobody's tired of the way it looks yet. And there are so many themes... I REFUSE to do orbs.
The only thing I can think of to do with Vista is a Win 7 Mod, but that's already been done by Sagor and others (one dA Wista to 7 Mod already has a million downloads.) Who's gonna look at my pitiful offering?

Think I'll start grinding out digital anime crap that takes five minutes to do and post several hundred every day. I'll submit them to our non-group as featured deviations and as admins you and Peter can vote them all down, because the non-group doesn't accept deviations.

Oh, the hilarity.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IanITAInc In reply to DopeySneezy [2010-05-11 13:59:35 +0000 UTC]

I know exactly what you mean. I personally love Windows 7 so I don't think it can be improved - only Windows 8 will be able to wake up Windows 7 and everybody will try to make Windows 7 look like Windows 8! On the other hand, Vista can be improved.

I intend to eventually improve =giannisgx89 deviation since it's not perfect. I already have his permission. Look for Aero Xtreme features such as the blue taskbar buttons (which BTW are very difficult to implement) and compatibility with Show Desktop. Should be pretty great! It will be a VS and not a WB theme.

When the time comes, I will try to submit it to our non-group but I'm afraid that it won't be accepted. I am so sad about that!

Does't that sheep ever get tired!

DopeySneezy In reply to IanITAInc [2010-05-11 21:42:18 +0000 UTC]

WoW! Good luck with that Visual Style. Why can't I ever think of stuff like that? Or just about the time I do think of it, then figure out how to pull it off, I'll see your brand spanking new Aero 7 Xtreme Visual Style for Vista in my New Deviations box and then have to go on a three week Jack Daniels binge and wind up in an expensive ReHab facility. Add to that the costs and fines that go with a court appearance for brawling naked in front of the Lutheran Church and it puts a strain on the family budget.

Japanese Cartoon crap is sounding better by the minute. Do you know where I can find some Pikachu and Squirtle pictures to rip off and re-touch in Photoshop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IanITAInc In reply to DopeySneezy [2010-05-12 04:23:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I think I will take that as a compliment!

The nice thing with a Vista VS is that all colors will work. The only thing is the taskbar buttons. They are colorless and color needs to be added manually.

However, I am currently working on a database project and it's taking up all of my time so I have no idea when I will even be able to takle a VS...

I tried working in Photoshop the other day. What the f**k is this! Can they make it just a little bit more complicated to use!

DopeySneezy In reply to IanITAInc [2010-05-12 11:00:00 +0000 UTC]

I hate learning anything new. The only time I try something like Photoshop is when nothing else will work. Here are the utilities I use in ascending order (that is, if No. 1 doesn't work, I'll try No. 2, and if that dowsn't work I'll try No. 3, etc...)

1. MsPaint
2. Irfanview
3. Paint.NET
4. GIMP
5. Adobe Photoshop

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IanITAInc In reply to DopeySneezy [2010-05-12 15:55:44 +0000 UTC]

Paint.net
Xara Xtreme Pro

That's all I use! But mostly Paint.net since I usually work at the pixel level. I guess I should try Irfanview or GIMP but I don't have the time to play right now...

I also recently heard echos about Google SketchUp. I said what? Ketchup?

It's apparently pretty good for 3D sketching but I have not tried it yet...

DopeySneezy In reply to IanITAInc [2010-05-12 23:50:21 +0000 UTC]

Tried Xara Xtreme Pro 4 (was it last year?) but every time I attempted to open or import a file in PNG or JPG or whatever, it just shut down. I uninstalled it.

As you can see, I'm easily discouraged, lol!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IanITAInc In reply to DopeySneezy [2010-05-13 14:35:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah! That is too bad! I think you would have liked it! The only thing is that it doesn't allow you to work at the pixel level which is why Paint.net is required. Maybe they will add that feature eventually. I will let you know if ever they do.

Wait... How am I going to remember to let you know if they add this feature in... say 3 years! I know, I will get a tattoo of your sheep on my right shoulder - that way I won't forget!

(I always wanted a sheep tattoo or wasn't it a cheap tatoo. I don't know! I am getting old and Alzheimer is settling in!)
Sheep, cheap... sleep! Sleep!!! Ya, that's what I need! Yikes, I forgot to go pee!

P.S.: If people read this, they are going to think we are crazy! Only having fun people!

Hey man, this looks great! After testing it out, the only trouble I see is this. The "Automatic Updates" and "Windows Firewall" applets have blurry icons in the control panel. Maybe its just me? Other than that, everything is kosher.

lol! Out of curiosity, Dustin, how long did it take 'ya?

Let me look at the two things that you mentioned and see if I screwed up the ordinal system for those two icons...you know- putting a 48 bit where a 16 should go or vice-versa. I don't even remember modding the firewall icon, so let me check.

Thanks for the feedback!

Lol I obviously didn't look at EVERYTHING, I just browsed a bit. Those were the only things I noticed though. The firewall icon did change so you modded it at some point lol! You did have a long day apparently lol.
