Description
Just a walkthrough as to how I make stuffs. It's not particularly thrilling, and is aimed at beginners, so might be a bit basic.

I need to remember to take more photographs and I wouldn't have to talk as much...
I might make more of these, along with some eventual tutorials and templates. Anybody want anything in particular? Let me know!

Suprizingly this tutorial helped me grasp how patterns are made! I managed to draft some successful patterns

Love this tutorial! However, I'm confused on how you sewed the legs together, and THEN attached them to the body while it was inside out. Could you perhaps provide a bit more detail on that? I always thought one was supposed to sew the inner leg pieces to the belly first.

Sorry! I realised halfway through id stopped taking pics FAIL.
You can do it whichever way you prefer, there is no right or wrong. I usually curve the pattern in the armpits and leg joins so they aren't dead square - this gives a rounder shape when stuffed - so sewing them to the belly can make the fabric buckle when sewing the lengths of the legs.
If your pattern is simple enough to that you CAN attach the legs to the belly first, that is a much simpler way to do it!

the eyes are hand embroidered! Do u think you could do a tutorial or give me some pointers? I have trouble filling in the bigger spots, it always ends up looking bunchy and ugly when I do it.

I've a small question about the horns on the cheeks: did you have them as separate, sewn together pieces, which you attached afterward? I'd think that'd be a bit tough to turn right side in!
π: 0 β©: 1
dot-DOLL In reply to AncientDragoness [2013-08-27 13:06:42 +0000 UTC]
Hi! Her horns and spines are actually sewn into the head piece and were part of the completed plush, not hidden stitched on once she's stuffed. With more experience nowΒ I would recommend stitching them on afterwards. There is no right or wrong way, it's just whatever is easiest for you.

Haha! Awesome! I can't wait! I've been getting better at sewing, so i wanted to try my hand at a fun plushie. I've followed patterns before, but i always seem to modify them... XD
π: 0 β©: 1
dot-DOLL In reply to Firestar24 [2013-07-22 19:12:07 +0000 UTC]
Modifying is good! You don't want to be bound by what's already there. Even if you just make the legs longer or the tail shorter or something, its better than just replicating what's already there.

I'm trying to make bird wings that have wire in them and need some help.
When you put the wire in the wings, does in go thur. the big part? (the lilac and pink) And is the wire all one big part, running thur. both wings?
Thanks!
π: 0 β©: 1
dot-DOLL In reply to FoxTone [2013-04-10 08:53:02 +0000 UTC]
I put the wire in the largest part of the wing, and anchor it in the body (like shoulder blades). If you put it in the little part of the wing, the top might be too heavy and push it down. You could do both for super stability if you like, but that might be a bit fiddly.
I unfortunately only had pipe cleaners at the time so the wire was broken up. Try and use one continual piece if you can, so it doesn't come unravelled after a few bends.
π: 0 β©: 1
FoxTone In reply to dot-DOLL [2013-04-10 10:59:00 +0000 UTC]
Ok.
B/c I was thinking of have 4x pieces of the big wing part and only having 2x pieces of the inside wing. Could you explain to me when/ how I should get the wire in the wings?
I mean do I sew like a little line running all the way from the tip of the wing to the base and just insert the wire into there?
I'm like so confused when it comes to wire and wings.
π: 0 β©: 1
dot-DOLL In reply to FoxTone [2013-04-10 15:32:35 +0000 UTC]
You could sew the wire in, but it would make a visible line. Works on dragon/bat wings, maybe not what you want on birds.
Fold the tip of the wire (in the tip of the wing) over into a loop, and sew the loop to the wing tip, preferably into the seam so its not very noticible. You can sew the wire in with a few stitches at other points too, just little patches so its not as noticible, and that will hold the wire in place, provided you're not too rough with it.
You probably don't need to wire the smaller part if it's only one layer thick, because it will be sewn directly onto the larger wing for stability.
try making small, quick versions with messy stitching just to see how it'll all work.
I add my wings on when I've finished everything else, either sewing them in to the main body or hidden stitching them on afterwards. They just get in the way otherwise XD
π: 0 β©: 1
FoxTone In reply to dot-DOLL [2013-04-11 12:20:49 +0000 UTC]
Ok.
So what you're saying is to, fold the wire in half so there is a loop at the end. And then sew the loop into the wings using small stitches and some other small stitches along the wire, just to keep in held in place???

dot-DOLL In reply to FoxTone [2013-04-11 16:09:52 +0000 UTC]
Yep, pretty much X3
Try on a smaller test wing just to see if you get the result you want.
