I LOOOVE THE AESTHETICS..... i couldn't be happier the children are explicitly jewish, it's so refreshing to me as an ethnic And religious+spiritual jew to see that in media.... esp because they were jewish in the books but it wasn't as explicitly stated unless you know of jewish traditions... daniel handler coded many characters :"-3 he's (i believe) bi and he's jewish himself so it means even more to me... PLUS theyve added little references in the show to the all the wrong questions books : D !!!! its neat to see those added!!!

what bothers me is how they've sort of washed out the characters quite a lot.... i listen to the audiobooks frequently (hello my very intense interest is showing), and it will always be disappointing to me how they did not do the characters justice :"( i could go on a very long rant

...BASICALLY i do enjoy the show & like it for what it is, i just wish they kept the characters personalities as complex as they were in the books & so far theyve glorified vfd to be something OTHER than a child-stealing traumatizing cult-like organization ; o ; i wont put down anybody who does like it. i have a lot of criticisms for it FHSJDJF

i know for certain that the director of the series is jewish but i didn’t know that about the actual author! i wasn’t raised religious but when i was in high school we had to do community service and i was placed with helping at a school in a jewish community. i learned a lot over four years and even though jewish representation doesn’t benefit me personally i’ve always felt very strongly about the need for it.

i agree with you there. i think it was a stylistic choice of theirs to have the children very devoid of emotion even in the face of, idk, their parents dying. and that really is how some people are but as they added more characters it just felt very...odd. especially when duncan and isadora (and the reference of the names in itself to isadora duncan is one of my favorite things ever) are a bit more lively. and it’s never really addressed other than in the pilot episode when mr. poe tells them about their parents and isn’t sure if they understood it or not.

and yeah the whole thing about vfd is a bit weird. i’m hoping it’ll be better explained in season 3 with kit snicket arriving on the scene. maybe also with the introduction of fiona. and ofc they’re heading to the vfd headquarters. so i’m hoping it’ll be like “ohhhhh no it makes sense why our parents never told us about this organization it’s becauas it’s actually terrible and Not Great”

i just enjoy the series over all and it actually took me until this year to be able to watch the show. when season 1 first came out i only made it three episodes in and even then, each episode exhausted me and i couldn’t physically handle more than one every few days. but i just. have a lot to say about asoue as a tv show and as a book series!!!! i don’t know a kid who Didn’t grow up reading them

ooooh!!!! i didn't ever do community services, i was raised christian and went on a church funded missions trip twice to a very fucking tiny island in the bahamas (if you google long island, that's it! stayed just off the mainland near dead man's cay), and hearing the history & talking to locals & the kindness people show you immediately opened up my world view for sure....

HEHE..... well NOW you know somebody who didn't grow up reading them! it was just about two years ago i actually picked up the series and fell in love with the puzzle-like aspect of it all :-3c

even if the show doesn't properly represent the characters, i'm beyond ecstatic to see the visuals come to life... they removed daniel handler from the actual production team a while back :"-( not sure why... they cut out captain widdershins as a character entirely, i'm SO UPSET!!!!! barry sonnenfeld suck my nuts challenge!!!!!!!!!

i love hearing people talk about the series in any manner honestly, i could talk for fucking EVER.... it's that good ol' passion, you're so valid [weary emoji face]

ooh that sounds interesting! and wow i don’t think i could’ve gotten into the books if i started them after the age of 10. i started them in second grade which is the year the final book was published, and reread them in fourth grade.

i’ve seen promo stills for season 3 that include captain widdershins. they’re definitely doing some things in a different order and i think i can respect that. as for why they removed daniel handler, it might’ve been his decision? it does seem like a very time consuming show to produce. in any case i’m looking forward to season 3! but not so much looking forward to it ending :c

i adore talking about asoue!! i’m constantly talking about it with one of my friends (we constantly joke that she’s the klaus to my violet because we’re more like siblings than anything else). i’m rereading the series currently, and i’m finding lots of little details i missed when i was a kid (like the implication that isadora likes girls)

hehe my little brother got me into them a few years ago ^^ it really is the perfect genre for me, shockingly.... i never would've predicted it!

REALLY??????? i haven't seen a single thing about widdershins except there being statements released about fiona being on her own and captain widdershins isn't really gonna be around.... & i believe daniel handler was removed, not by his choice, but they had him leave the production :- ( i'm really looking forward to this upcoming season..... Show Me The Island...... SHOW me the ridiculous hotel!!!!! FUCK

AWWW my brother and i joke i'm a lot like kit and he's lemony.... there's a lot a LOT of coding of the characters (i believe isadora is also coded to be a trans girl, or that duncan and quigley are trans boys; identical triplets are all born the exact same! in atwq lemony says he's "pretended to be a boy many times" while helping moxie dress up in a disguise, so he's probably meant to be trans).... i love all the details it keeps me scouring for information and makes it worth listening to again >:-3c

i'm one of four and i think im the only one who's read them, mostly because my older brother and sister are Way older than i am. and my younger brother was never huge on reading. but i always borrowed them from the school library as a kid, along with the Dragonology Chronicles (which is surprisingly similar to asoue. it's basically just...if sunny hadn't been born, and count olaf and uncle monty were the same person, and instead of studying lizards and snakes he studied dragons).

I ADORE TRANS HEADCANONS!!!! you have no idea!!! i made a trans!klaus comic a little while ago and it wasnt Great but im just! wheezes loudly
and i personally go with trans!isadora but quigley and duncan both being trans boys is also very very good! literally tho i'm Always open to talking abt asoue and other things if u wanna shoot me a note or add me on discord or smth

omg..... i only really have an older sibling by blood but i have a friend ive known for so long & we're so close i just call him my brother ^^ saves time explaining we're close hehe....  i read a LOT in elementary n middle school, audiobooks saved me bcuz now i can actually READ AGAIN.... that's a hilarious synopsis, i should see if there's audiobooks of those.... hm!
