Description For a bit of a change of pace, this is not a story.  Instead, this is...

MY FETISH MANIFESTO

In thinking about my various kinks I thought it might be interesting to take the time to write everything out and explain all of it as best as possible.  Not just so that I can document my own interests, but it might also help others figure out their own fetishes.  In addition, it might also help people outside of the community understand where we're coming from.  For example, let's say a guy's girlfriend finds out about his inflation fetish.  Rather than him try to explain it himself when he might not know how, he could possibly point to this write-up and say, "Read this, it's from an average guy in the community who decided to really explore and explain his fetish, his interests are similar to mine, and he can explain it better than I can."

And for those who are outside the community and may have jaded opinions of us, I hope that this helps prove that not everyone in the community is a creep.  I don't think of myself as a creep, at least.  If others can understand my/our motivation for indulging our fetishes, maybe they will be able to at least see the other side of the story and not be too judgmental.

Some of the anecdotes mentioned throughout may be familiar if you've haunted either the Expansion Mansion or BodyInflation.org forums at all.

FOREWORD

I was introduced to the concept of sex at a very early age, certainly years earlier than my parents would've preferred.  When I was about 5 or 6, a friend of mine that lived across the street and was probably 10-11 years old showed me a Playboy that he'd somehow gotten a hold of.  To make a long story short, not long afterward when I innocently asked my parents if they took their clothes off when they had sex, they were none too pleased about it, and I wasn't allowed to go to my friend's house anymore.

I don't know how much that early exposure shaped my future fetishes, but I'm sure it had at least some impact.

Over the years, I've found that I have an (almost) all-encompassing attraction to unusual body features; not necessarily features that are rare (although that is sometimes the case), but at least features that you may not see every day.  For example: I dated a very cute deaf girl once.  She could not hear anything at all without her hearing aids, and even with the hearing aids she still had to read lips to truly understand what people were staying.  Also, if you know anything about profoundly deaf people, you know that they can't talk "normally" because they can't hear themselves.  This girl was no different – she had a noticeable speech impediment as a result of her hearing.  But dammit, those hearing aids and that voice matched with that adorable person made her even more attractive to me.  She was not at all ashamed of either quality, and in fact made fun of both of them often (long after we dated, she told me that she wanted to audition for American Idol so she could try to get on TV as one of the really bad auditions), but when I told her that I was attracted to those features it made her SUPER happy.

Now, that's not to say that I have a fetish for hearing aids or deaf girls or anything – I don't – but she had a couple of unusual traits that I became attracted to.  Although that is a very specific example, the more general aspects of it are going to be a recurring theme in the text that follows.

There is also something oddly attractive about helplessness or a lack of control in a situation.  This is not always a sexual thing for me; as an example, some of my favorite scenes from sci-fi or action movies is the "abandon ship" type scenarios, like a warp core breach in Star Trek.  There's just something about me that likes watching people lose control.  However, the sexual aspect of this is also not universal; for instance, BDSM doesn't do anything for me at all, but certain other things do.  Again, this is going to be a recurring theme.

This will be the first in a series of my fetishes (I have several) that I will highlight.  First up is...

FETISH: BODY INFLATION

This is probably the first fetish that ever manifested itself.  When I was little, I liked to watch Inspector Gadget, and my favorite part of the show was always when he would "go go Gadget coat" and inflate.  I have absolutely no explanation for why this was fascinating to me, but it was.  I remember wearing some of my dad's shirts and stuffing them full of pillows to try my best to simulate it.  I also remember drawing Inspector Gadget's head on a piece of paper, cutting it out, and then taping it to the top of a balloon and bouncing it around my room.

At this point, the fascination with inflation was purely non-sexual, and it was more of latching onto one thing that a kid's favorite cartoon character does.

EVERYTHING changed in first grade when I saw Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for the first time.  It's hard to really describe what I was thinking when I watched Violet turn into a big round blueberry, but suffice it to say that something clicked.  Sitting in the middle of my first grade class at school, I was trying to casually hide my erection.  In first grade!  From that moment on, inflation was purely a sexual thing and, having seen it happen to a female, I was no longer interested in seeing guys do it.  In elementary and middle school I would (poorly) draw pictures of girls I was attracted to, only very inflated, and I would also write stories about them.  In a series of events that I don't even fully recall, in early 1998 I somehow stumbled upon the BE Archive and, soon thereafter, Inflate123's and LVKane's web sites.  I believe it was not long after either site had launched.  After being exposed to both sites' content, I truly felt like I had come into my own with my inflation fetish.

Let's break this down into the two main attraction characteristics I pointed out earlier:

Unusual body features – a no-brainer, and the obvious physical/visual attraction.  I don't think anyone needs any explanation there.

Lack of control – This is where the mental attraction layers itself in several ways.  First you have an event (or series of events) that leads to a woman inflating.  In a lot of inflation fiction or imagery, inflations occur against the inflatee's wishes.  As the woman blows up larger, she presumably becomes more immobile and increasingly less able to stop or reverse what is happening to her.  At that point she has a complete lack of control over her own body, completely at the mercy of whatever force is inflating her, whether it be another person, or a lone water hose, chemicals, magic, or whatever the inflation method du jour is.  (As an aside, a story involving a woman who willingly allows herself to be inflated, or even inflates herself, get bonus points because they surrender control of their bodies.  That's hot.)

SUB-FETISH: SPHERICAL INFLATION

Guys are supposed to be attracted to tits and ass, right?  What the hell is so good about a woman who just ends up as one big ball?

I wish I knew for sure, but let's go back to the two main points:

Unusual body features – I would say that turning an otherwise attractive woman into a sphere is pretty unusual.  Plus, everything that happens in between those two phases is interesting as well, as you have body parts swelling far larger than they're supposed to, changing shape and then blending together in bizarre ways.  But then, you still (often) find head, hands, and feet on such an inflated woman.  Neato.  Or sometimes the women in my stories have had their hands and feet completely absorbed by their bodies.  I've also lately been experimenting with the head going the same way, leaving an inflatee's face perfectly flush against her body.  Just some unusual things that appeal to me.

Lack of control – I pretty much already covered this in the last section.

SUB-FETISH: REALLY, REALLY, REALLY BIG INFLATION

I am definitely a member of the bigger-is-better crowd.  Again, much larger inflations (meaning tens or hundreds of feet wide) mean less control and a lesser chance of returning to normal.  I know that's not everybody's thing as most people prefer their inflatable girls to still fit in a room, and I like those stories too, but I would say 20-50 feet is my sweet spot.

SUB-FETISH: BURSTING/POPPING

I prefer to use the word "bursting" since "popping" seems a little too cartoony for my tastes.

This is without a doubt one of the more controversial topics in the inflation community.  Some who like it feel that an inflated woman bursting is simply part of the natural progression of events; that she has, in effect, turned into a balloon, and that she must now burst because that's what balloons do.  Others that like it have compared it to a release, not entirely unlike an orgasm.  Those who don't like it equate it with snuff fiction and getting off on the thought of killing people.  Conversely, there is also the camp of people who like bursting but don't see it as death – the woman may simply deflate, or she may reconstitute somehow, or any other ways to keep her alive and/or in one piece.

Personally, I think a woman dies after she bursts.  As imaginary as body inflation is, I prefer to treat it with as much realism as possible, and the thought of her somehow surviving the blast doesn't jive with my logic.  However, my standpoint is a little different, and it took me a while to figure out why that whole concept was arousing to me.  It all goes back to lack of control.

Let's use a lower stakes example to illustrate my point.  A woman sits on a couch with a half-gallon of ice cream and watches TV.  She likes the ice cream, and next thing she knows she's eaten the whole thing because it tasted so good.  The next morning she steps on the scale and sees that she gained 3 pounds.  The taste of the ice cream basically caused her to lose control of her weight, even if for just that one day.

I see bursting the same way: a woman is so helpless that she cannot prevent herself from inflating larger and larger, and she does not even possess the most basic ability to ensure her own survival.  So it's not that "doubleintegral gets turned on by chicks dying," but rather I get turned on by the fictional events and circumstances leading up to a fictional woman bursting.  And to continue my previous point about women voluntarily inflating, if her own indulgence in turning herself into a blimp causes her to burst... well, even better.  That's like a woman intentionally eating 20 cartons of ice cream knowing that she will gain weight and she either wants to or doesn't care.

I should note that, for things like this, it is extremely important to know the barriers between real life and fantasy.  I know body inflation as we celebrate it is not possible in real life, so when I write a story about fictional characters bursting, I don't think there's anything inherently evil or demented or immoral about that.  However, every now and then we'll see some dude surface and say that he really wants to inflate and burst his ex-girlfriend or something.  Honestly, that really creeps me out, as the line between real life and fantasy just got blurred quite a bit.  Makes me wonder if something else is going on under the surface.

HOW DO I INDULGE THIS FETISH?

Pretty much only with drawings and stories.  Since inflation is physically impossible my imagination prefers to work off of stories a lot, and if there are some stories out there that almost-but-not-quite fit my tastes, I can simply make a few changes to them.  (Of course, I never post these stories for anyone else to read.)  I like very polished, well-done inflation art that suits my tastes as well, but this is harder to find for me since every artist has different tastes and I can't make changes to drawings so easily.

I have never (and will never) experiment with self-inflation.  Just doesn't sound all that appealing to me.  Similarly, inflatable suits don't sound all that great to me either, but I will admit that when my wife said she wanted to be a big round Violet Beauregarde for halloween I got kinda excited.  Now to find such a suit without spending hundreds of dollars...

There are a lot of stories I like, but my favorites include (in no particular order):

"The Stargazer" by LVKane – Not a new story by any means, but a classic in my opinion.  It's hard for me to pinpoint exactly what I like best about it since it's really a pretty simple story, but it just works.  I like the fact that Sarah enjoyed the experience, and I always like the plot device of floating higher and inflating larger as the air pressure drops.

"The Essence of Justice" by Boobarian – It kind of surprised me at first how much I like this story, since I don't always go for the overly sexual inflation stories.  But the attention to detail when describing Jean's inflation is brilliant and nearly unparalleled to this day, despite a handful of inconsistencies in the story.  Her size is right in my wheelhouse, and of course the bursting is a plus.  But the thing that absolutely appeals to me about this story is the duality of Jean's character.  At first Jean hates Ted and wants to prevent him from screwing with her.  However, once she starts inflating (with water), she becomes so uncontrollably immersed in the sexual pleasure of her inflation that she is powerless to prevent herself from becoming a female water balloon; and yet, she wants the pleasure to continue, and despite still hating Ted she doesn't mind the fringe benefits of what's happening to her.  BUT THEN (and this is so great, in my opinion) Jean snaps out of it, realizes what is going on, and demands that Ted stop... but it's too late!  By that point she is already huge and completely helpless.  Then she starts inflating again (with air this time) and she irrevocably falls back into orgasm mode as she gets bigger and bigger; the narrator even implies that she kind of likes it.  Her ecstasy continues as she keeps expanding until she finally explodes... but not because she ran out of room (and I like to think she had lots of room left), but because a fuse ignited her hydrogen-filled body.  Wow.  What a great story.

"Balloon Tech" by Sievert – Great plot combined with a nice inflation scene that also includes some of the same duality in Shawn's character.

"The Cargo" by Bob King – One of the few gradual-inflation stories out there, and certainly an inspiration to at least one of my own stories.

"One Nasty Sting" by Sickstar – A worthy entry into the massive inflation lexicon.  One thing I always loved was that the girls' speech became more and more slurred as they grew, to the point that another character could not even understand them when they were at their biggest.

"Life on the Farm" series by JB – I wasn't a huge fan of the entire series, but I enjoyed the parts that included Terri.  Again, the size is right, and the fact that she also couldn't talk at her biggest struck a chord with me.  I also liked the part where they used her giant body as food.

My favorite pieces of art/media that best fit my tastes are the BerryGirl series by JohnnySwell and the inflation scene from the Cobra anime.  I don't think much explanation is necessary for either one.

As far as live-action inflation reenactments go, despite the use of CGI the Violet scene in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Brenda from Slither are both favorites of mine.  I know a lot of people were disgusted by the Slither scene, but it is strangely appealing to me, especially when she says, "These fuckers are tearing me apart!"  Again, knowing her fate and helpless to do anything to prevent it.

Next up: I tackle my pregnancy fetish .  Hopefully that won't be nearly as long.

Now I'm wondering if I should make my own manifesto.

Wow, this was actually really informative!  I just thought a lot of these fetishes were something you either got or you didn't, but you went into more detail on how this happened to you.  Seriously, I wasn't even interested in sex until I was twenty and when I got an erection in those days, I genuinely thought there was something wrong with me since it didn't happen that often.  I didn't feel like something was missing from my life since my penis already had a use.

Also, I would kill to see the reaction of Denise Nickerson (the woman who played Violet) to the inflation fetish.  If I was the one to show her, I would probably also show her your paper.

That's very well put and you make me want to do my own write up. I'm rather different because i self-inflate and i'm into maximising realism in fantasy settings, so i'm not into giant inflation, but i am seriously into bursting, though it's me that bursts, or rather the bursting is from a first-person perspective on the whole. That avoids the gore because if bursting=death then you don't need to think about it. Bursting is the end of the story because there's no more narrator if it's done from the first person.

The thing about early discovery would apply to me too. Maybe this kind of thing happens when people feel sexually aroused unusually young.

I've been getting a lot of flack lately over a stamp I made regarding my dislike of this stuff. Not a single person so far has really presented a decent argument in its defense. But here, I will most certainly give you credit where it's due. I respect the fact you try to explain it but I find I'm still unable to understand it.

I think it's wrong to want someone to be without power over their own body. It seems like predation to be sexually excited by someone's weakened state (not to say I think you're a predator). Just consider this, how would you feel if someone was turned on by your weakness? Wouldn't that make you uneasy?

Hopefully you see that I'm not trying to demonize you for your interests. I never thought ill of the people themselves who create this work, just the idea of the work. I tried to wrap my head around it as I read this but for some reason I simply cannot. Again, though, I commend you for trying to explain.

Nice write up. I completely understand the appeal of a woman facing the ultimate consequences of her expansion. That's why bursting is appealing to me, too, albeit from a weight gain/gluttony stand point, like your ice cream example.

I find the "controversial" nature of bursting interesting and frustrating; if an individual cannot differentiate reality from imagination, especially concerning expansion, they have other challenges to face. Those of us who CAN differentiate the two should therefore not be accountable for someone else's challenge. However, I think the people who seem to blur the line between reality and fantasy may simply be voicing their fantasy through their internet personas. Since there is no threat of women actually bursting, those who critique the appeal also can't tell when it's pure fantasy.

Interestingly, even though I come at the expansion thing from a weight gain perspective and don't prefer the spherical body shape as a result, each Violet Beauregarde scene in the Wonka movies has inherent appeal: the first movie scene because she simply will not stop chewing her gum, and the camerawork clearly depicts that, and her expansion is a consequence of that, and the second movie scene because the beginning of her expansion is pear-shaped and she sort of gets stuck at the end. I liked Slither, too, especially when she asked for a little racoon or possum meat or whatever her line was.

Thanks for the food for thought!

I remember watching Willy Wonka but I didn't really realize the allure until much much later. I too however remember when I first came across the BeArchive and LVKane's website.

A very interesting read! I think Violet was a starting point for a lot of inflation fetishists. Looking forward to more like this!
