It was the first gala Jen and Bruce were scheduled to attend since taking in Dick 3 months prior. There had been one before it, but they were able to get out of it and Lucius - bless that man - went in their stead. But this one was important for them to attend. So they were leaving their foster son home alone tonight... Well, with Alfred.

"You sure I can't come with?" The boy asked, looking up at the two as he held his book.

"Trust me kiddo, we'd much rather be here with you," Jen tried to assure, smiling, "These things aren't all that fun. Lots of boring grown-up talk."

"Besides," Bruce said, kneeling down in front of the 9-year-old, "You've almost finished your book. You finish that and you can tell us all about it tomorrow, deal?"

Dick sighed but nodded, "Deal," he relented. Bruce smiled and ruffled his hair, causing him to laugh some.

"Then we'll see you in the morning."
