I've been watching the shitstorm unfold since a few weeks. The increase of ai generated images on the front page, taking the space that should belong to artists that actually put their heart, hands and pen (be it traditionally or digitally) to work for hours in order to create something and share a part of them with the world, has left me utterly disappointed in this site and with the part of 'society' that are just a bunch of lazy asses that want to quickly generate some pics to have some attention and get some money at the expenses of STOLEN art from artists that invested years of their lives learning how to create art, developing their styles and themselves to earn their place in this field.

Some people are fast to defend it, but they don't care about starting or small artists that now will have to compete against ai to be seen, to get commissions, sell their art, etc. What's the point of learning how to draw or trying to improve your skills if someone can spit a picture in a short time that looks like it was made by a pro? (with a ton of flaws of course, but the scary thing is that it could reach the point where it will be hard to identify a generated picture at plain sight). How are we going to compete with a machine that can spit a greater amount of images in a shorter time? How are we going to be seen when social networks reward posting frequently but you can't create a whole artwork 5 times a day? Honestly, I find myself asking these questions.

Are there justified uses to ai? Maybe, but currently everything is tainted because they never asked for permission to use the data for training models. They sure were quick to monetize them and earn big $$$ after stealing from artists. We should have the right to decide if we want our creation used in such ways, and fair guidelines should be implemented instead of disregarding everything and doing as they please. And as a developer I am so disappointed too, they could have done it the right way if they wanted, so there's really no justification for any of this mess.

Anyways, I'm just a small unknown hobbyst 'artist' (I still feel this word is too big to describe myself, yet some people use it like it's nothing), but I feel deeply betrayed by what deviantart did by promoting ai stuff and even releasing 'their' own tool (it's not even entirely theirs) which is based off stolen works from artists from deviantart itself and other social networks, just because they want to grab the dirty $$$. This is the place I had considered a home for my art for more than a decade and what it has become now is a place I don't trust anymore.

Well, it seems it's my time to make a decision and take some actions here. I don't feel like uploading my work that took months of painful effort, discipline and love to an easy access repository for the ai models to use whenever they want. Therefore, my gallery won't be available for now. I'll be thinking what to do next. Maybe this is just a phase, maybe things will change, but in the meantime this is my stance.

Friends and watchers, I'll still be around checking your messages/artworks. Thanks for your support all this time. I'll keep you posted about future decisions.
