Description
A few months back, Depeshay made me this WONDERFUL (and unexpected) birthday gift! The quality of the artwork was surpassed only by the kindness of her gesture, so I just had to even the score repay the favor and draw her something for her birthday...and missed the mark by a month. Sorry I couldn't get this done on time, Depe, but I hope you enjoy the scene nonetheless!
Cooper is a darling little Zorua who wants to be a treasure-finding, sea-sailing, foul-mouthed courageous pirate like his father before him. His father in question is the retired seadog, Cortes , who happens to be friends with Asuka. Cortes has taken great interest in the Raichu's fighting spirit and Asuka is desperate for company always willing to help out a friend, so I imagine that Cortes wanted to set up a play-day for his son to practice being a pirate and enlisted Asuka's strong arms to help them take to the seas...Or, the shallows of the local beach (this is just for play, not for serious plunder, after all).
Since this is just some father-son bonding time (with the father's weird friend tagging along), the emphasis is more on fun than real profiteering, so their ship is just a simple raft Cortes and Asuka made, the treasure is just some shiny and colorful things Cortes scattered about for Cooper to find and everyone dressed up as a pirate they know. Cortes is keeping the Old School alive and well by donning the garb of Captain Hook, Cooper embraces what was probably the first pirate film he saw by channeling Captain Jack Sparrow and Asuka takes after the one pirate that shares her love of unarmed combat, Monkey D. Luffy (pre-timeskip). Huh...Three captains on one ship...A crew consisting entirely of captains...
So...This picture took MUCH longer than I thought it would and it has FAR more background than I intended it to. Aside from the characters all wearing relatively complicated clothes and me going into unfamiliar territory by adding shading and lighting, I had NOOOOOOOO IDEA how to properly draw a background that would show that the characters are only a few feet away from the shoreline, so I wound up drawing far more beach than I should have...But the beach didn't take up ENOUGH room, so I had to add a boardwalk, which I did not enjoy doing...But even THAT wasn't enough, because I needed some more negative room around the characters, so I had to add EVEN MOOOOOOORE background by drawing the surrounding town! I'm sure the lack of details is an eyesore and the perspective ranges from awful to LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE...but hey, at least the characters look good, right?
Despite the background being beyond my comprehension, I had fun drawing the characters and their accessories! Cortes and Cooper have an infectious energy that's always so fun to be around, so I hope you enjoy looking at this picture as I did drawing it minus the griping about the background griping earlier. Happy belated birthday, Depeshay!

Cooper-I've got a bucket of shells! I've got a bucket of shells! And guess what's inside it!
This is a very sweet picture, with everyone having a good time. I also like that you added so much to the background so it wasn't just beach, even if it took longer than you expected.

Percival: You have to be the worst pirates I've ever seen.
Cortes: But you have heard of us...
Awwwwwww, thank you! The picture that Depeshay made was so thoughtful that I had to pull out every trick I could think of to keep pace with her; I'm glad you think it's good!
Heheheheheheheheh! Thank you again! I'm glad you like the beach...because I hate it, heh heh. Next time I do a background, I'll have to look up how perspective and crap work.

You passed the test! As part of Cooper's training, Cortes intentionally neglected to put a flag on the S.S. Dread Roberts to see if Cooper would spot the flaw; you obviously saw it, so you're on your way to becoming a pirate!
...Sorry, wait, that's not it. They didn't have enough room for the flag and their cooler (can't sail on an empty stomach). Never mind, there was no pirate test; contrary to the song, you are not a pirate.
