Zilla is the official name Toho gave to the design of Godzilla in the 1998 American made "Godzilla" which starred Mathew Brodrick and Jean Reno. The Godzilla fanbase, generally, does not like the monster because they feel it was an insult to the source materiel, so much that they gave it a nickname: GINO (Godzilla In Name Only). In 2004 when Toho was making Godzilla Final Wars, the director and company decided to use the design not as Godzilla, but another monster that was named Zilla (Because the Sony version took the "God" out of "Godzilla"). Even 16 years after the movie (and monster's) release, he is still mostly hated by the Godzilla Fandom. However for some of us the cartoon "Godzilla - The Animated Series" made up for much of the disappointment of the movie by giving the Zilla design more aspects of Godzilla such as regeneration, a fighting spirit, and atomic breath.

Zilla doesn't need or deserve haters any more. When G2014 comes out, how many people will remember Zilla's movie? No one. Zilla's awesome, that's something the TKForumites can't get through their thick fanboy skulls.

While I may not be the biggest 'Zilla fan around, I'm not it's biggest hater either. I actually liked the movie, I just thought they took it in too much of an animal direction and away from the monstrous, horror direction. I do like the design though, and it works for me as being an adult animal, but still a young one that say had just barely reached the mature side of youth. To me there was a lot of room for growth and development that could happen to bring it closer to the Godzilla we know. But, it was and is a cool take on our favorite kaiju king. The movie was good for what it was, but it could indeed have been better had they made the animal more monstrous, tougher, and retained the full radioactive breath ray of his.
I love you art take here on 'Zilla. This makes him the more dangerous, cool, and lethal looking a monster we were hoping for in the movie.

Um.. it was a full adult animal... they just took it too much in a direction that a lot of the fanbase recognized as Godzilla because they wanted to portray it realistically and it backfired.
Least the Animated series made up for it, which is the version I used for the colors, fire, and sparking dorsal spines. ^^ Glad you like it.

As for why the lightning, since his spines charged like Godzilla's I wanted to give a similar effect of just the energy burn-off arching like lightning down his spines. Plus it gives it a nice bright contrast to the darkness of his skin. ^^

It actually doesn't look bad. It's very effective. I just personally don't like extraneous lighting. I saw a picture of Darth Malak that slightly bugged me because they had lightning coming out of his eyes.
It's just a personal problem. It's still a superb Zilla.

omg I LOVE IT!!! wish this was at AFW i would of got this in a heart beat ^^ and the bolts of energy dancing around is a very nice touch as well. i was upsessed with the 98 film as a kid just so sad zilla is hated so bad

Me too! I LOVE Zilla Jr! He was so cool and epic in the animated series! Its a real shame it got canceled so early. He really does deserve a lot more love. Nobody gives him any cause they are still pissed about the 98' movie. I LOVE Zilla's design. Its a shame people hate and treat him so badly. Even Final Wars made fun of him lol.
