Base Coat Colors

Base Coat Colors
The base coat is something that every stryx has, and also has its color determined by various combinations of the Ee gene, the Aa gene, and the Ss gene.

Snow (Ss, SS)

Sand (Aa/Ss - AA/Ss - Aa/SS)

Soil (Aa, AA)

Nox (Ee, EE)

Base Coat Mutations
Melanism
Melanism, is the presence of the Nox gene alongside another base coat.
It is classed as a mutation due to its overall effect on markings.

Leucism *
Leucism is a passable mutation that dilutes the coat and markings.
It has a chance of cropping up randomly in breedings with the Snow gene present.

Non-Passable Mutations

These mutations are not genetic and can not be passed down, but are instead inherited randomly.
Basic Mutations may be added during upload if rolled on the geno, by using a Basic Mutation Tonic , OR for free once a Stryx reaches 75 AP apparel status. (Pending potential changes.)
Unique mutations affect genetics and/or aren't applicable with a mutation tonic (except Quarry), but are still non-passable.

So I've been seeing this around and don't see it here exactly

What is the Paradox mutation?
Is there a journal for it or another page?
I've seen many examples but it doesn't clear up for me on what it is exactly.

heya. I'm not an admin but you don't got a reply yet.
Paradox is a mutation that lets you design markings outside of their rules.
However this is no normal mutation you can get by breeding. Only events and guest artist can use the paradox mutations.

Ooooh
That makes a lot of sense on a few things on how they've been made different. So if an event happens and it gives out a small chance of paradox we could possibly get them? I know itll be a low chance, but still a chance aye?

If I remember right Paradox was available only once (but I'm not even sure about this)
Most of the time Stryx with paradox are already predesigned.
Currently there is the great harvest event in which you can win one of 6 paradox microstryx if you are lucky.
www.deviantart.com/eyeofgalyx/…
They are already designed, same with guest artist.

I'm not sure if you are allowed to redesign them with a mayor makeover kit.

Just wanting to add, even though this might be a little late;
You can gain Paradox mutations that can be applied to any of you stryxes if you get one of your stryxes to diamond ascension level (5000AP)
As seen below;
Diamond Rewards
Upon reaching Diamond status your stryx will receive:

Choice of any one Rare Marking add-on for the stryx, regardless of the number of current markings
+
Choice of any Tail Type change for the stryx
(No makeover kit is required for application of marking and tail change, but the rest of the design should remain the same.)

You will also receive one (non-sellable) Paradox Mutation that can be applied to any stryx of your choice (makeover kit required to apply to uploaded stryxes).

This information can also be found here: The Path to Ascension
Hope this helps :3

Is the midnight marking always black, or can it be the colour it says on the geno? for example, my one says Midnight Snow.

Snow is the base colour, and Mid night is the marking. You will have to follow Midnight's markings rules. ~Alri

im a bit confused about the galyx gene
are we allowed to pick colors from the two sliders? For example: soil and picking red from on slider and green from the other to blend together

I ask because I see some stryx like this:

Questions are encouraged to be asked in the Frequently Asked Questions

As for the answer - as long as you're using the proper base Galyx sliders (like Snow), you can mix two colors from the separate sliders. You can't mix sliders of two base coats (like Nox and Soil) together.

I hope this answer makes sense!

Hello! So my Geno is Midnight soil and that is all he is. I am not sure what color to use? Also, since there are different colors for soil, could I use more than one on him as coloration?

EyeOfGalyx In reply to Daranyxx [2019-04-05 00:36:30 +0000 UTC]

You can pick from any of the soil sliders, however the base coat colour of the must be a solid colour. Midnight marking does make it so you have a dark gradient down the front of the bird. ~Alri

if you have a colour modifier like jay and it does not have to be fully opaque can this be used to make a less saturated but even colour by having a semi transparent overlay on top of the base colour say soil

SilveryStormWing In reply to CaptainCrabcakes [2019-04-03 17:35:28 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Minimum opacity is 45% I believe

Question! My geno has the Jay modifier, if it modifies the base color, what color would Shaded be?

Arawka In reply to Starlight-ARPG [2019-03-26 00:01:09 +0000 UTC]

Heyo! (I hid my previous reply whoops)

Shaded cannot be affected by color mods unfortunately!

In this case, Jay wont be able to affect the base with Shaded being present

Hello! I have a question. What does the Dom snow, Dom soil etc mean anyways?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilveryStormWing In reply to charliebear442211 [2019-03-13 17:03:42 +0000 UTC]

It means the base coat for Nox instead of being Ee/aa/ss, it is EE/aa/ss. This means that Nox will almost always pass, even when bred with soil. Same with snow and sand. It does not affect color ranges, just pass rates.

For the tendril mutation, would this be valid?

hi!!

unfortunately, admins are not allowed to answer “will this pass?” type questions outside of the design approvals/corrections official comments

of course you can always check the Tendril  guide for what is or isn’t allowed! it’s been recently updated with new wording and a handful of uploaded examples, as well :3c

hi there!!

based on your geno and pheno information, your lass is Soil! that means you can colour-pick your base colour from your choice of the six Soil sliders we’ve provided at the top of this journal!

you can check the individual colour guidelines and rules for each marking by clicking on the appropriate link from the lists above!

i hope that gives you a bit of clarification to start you on the right path! of course if you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask! :3c

since there are now tail types, do old horned imports count as scalloped tail, or standard?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EyeOfGalyx In reply to Zelphaba [2019-02-10 04:22:03 +0000 UTC]

Scalloped. Silken and Royals also get Silky tails as well if they were pre-tail update genos =3

About the base coat, is it ok to add a very light gradient without a gene? I ask because the Stryx I'm currently designing is well kinda bland and with a gradient it actually adds the touch it needs. However if it isn't allowed I'll omit it.

SilveryStormWing In reply to GuardianOfEnergy [2019-01-24 05:16:45 +0000 UTC]

A very, very slight gradient is allowed, I believe. But not an admin so not completely sure.

Can you add mutations to a design that is already uploaded?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EyeOfGalyx In reply to The-Nerd01 [2019-01-23 12:01:29 +0000 UTC]

you will need a mutation potion of the respective rarity, and a major makeover kit ~Alri

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Nerd01 In reply to EyeOfGalyx [2019-01-23 17:22:24 +0000 UTC]

Does this also apply to feather mutations, like silky or horned, on an uploaded design as well? Or are they permanent?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EyeOfGalyx In reply to The-Nerd01 [2019-01-24 12:47:06 +0000 UTC]

The only thing that can not be changed on an already uploaded stryx is sex and Breed. As long as you have the coat change/ marking addon and the Major makeover kit, then you can change your stryx. Also keep in mind that its a max of 8 markings on a stryx

Can you gain/add/change gene types? Or are they set in stone?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlueeFall In reply to Azrielyn [2019-01-12 23:42:49 +0000 UTC]

You can add a marking to a stryx using marking add ons that you can get from event sales I beleive, and there’s a cleansing elixir in the token tavern to remove a mark, if that’s what you mean
(not a mod btw, so I could be wrong)

Excuse me, is it possible for a stryx to have all base color genes recessive (ee/aa/ss)? If yes, what color would said stryx be? Sorry if this question is redundant, I couldn't find it anywhere else.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EyeOfGalyx In reply to AlexWyvern [2018-12-28 10:16:41 +0000 UTC]

No. there must be an always active base coat. Full recessive coats are not possible. ~Alri

Can my import have any chosen Marking/mutations? Or does is have to fallow somewhat what the Markings/mutations of the parents?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EyeOfGalyx In reply to ScarletKnightReterns [2018-12-20 22:23:54 +0000 UTC]

An import must follow what is on the geno. so if the geno says it's a "Soil with blanket" then you are getting the soil base with blanket. the Only exception to this is the free marks which can be added to any geno.
