"do a barrel roll" is a thing in the Star Fox series (as well as a meme), and Donkey Kong rolls barrels at Jumpman (Mario) in the old Donkey Kong arcade game, thus this crossover uwu

I thought Cranky Kong was DK's grandfather? That's what they called him in the original Donkey Kong Country.Β

Nintendo's online magazine states that the current Donkey Kong is Cranky's grandson.

I'd say that stems from Donkey Kong 64, where Cranky calls Donkey Kong his son, but from what I've read it looks like that was an error that's been corrected as of Donkey Kong Country Returns. So, Cranky is DK's grandpa, not father.Β

the pixelated gorilla in the last panel, behind the modern DK.
that is what the bunny guy is telling donkey kong: "you're becoming more like your father"Β
the father is the very 1st DK

Cranky Kong is the original Donkey Kong, who is stated to be the current Donkey Kong's grandfather in the original Donkey Kong Country's instruction manual, Nintendo's online magazine, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. The only time I remember Cranky being called the current DK's father is in Donkey Kong 64.
