Description A long overdue WIP of a Slakemoth (weirdly folded mind-sucking hypnotizing moth-things) from China Mieville's 'Perdido Street Station.'

A WIP because I should really add a proper background and also it's crazy hypnotizing wings. The super ambitious part of me is like HAHA ANIMATE THE WINGS DO IT. But god knows I remember how long it took me to make other quick animated things and I scare myself off.

Any suggestions? I'm having issues with making sure it doesn't look too flat or dark, and I always have problems with digital texture.

Whoa this is freaky and neat. ALL THE LIMBS.

A really easy way to animate psychedelic wings would be to draw crazy rainbow-patterned wings on a separate layer under the body, duplicate it, adjust the hue slider slightly, then duplicate THAT layer, wash rinse repeat until desired number of frames / the hue slider has gone full circle to the beginning. I dunno how the source material describes them, but I think if the wings have a symmetrical pattern that goes to a center, that would be pretty hypnotic.

Thanks! Tried to stay as close to the original feel as possible. Too many limbs all reaching out to grab you, unfolding like some sort of freaky puzzle. A giant brain-sucking moth-monster puzzle.

As I recall (I'd have to reread though) it was like... Muted tones that shifted colors and patterns, and was symmetrical down the middle, like a big dark rainbow shifting ink-blot test.

I'd like to do so that the pattern changes and not only the color, which would mean LOTS of work. But I'll see. I need to get back into the swing of digital art first. I know for a fact that LOTS of duplicating is going to be involved, and lots of tiny adjustments.

Maybe a little shading behind the... tongue... thing? The thing coming out of its mouth.

This is highly disturbing!

WAY TO GO!

Thanks!

And yeah I'll definitely have to change that, it's looking a little flat. Not what I want out of weird brain-sucking tongue things.

Everything looks really good! Though the only problem I have with the mouth (it looks a little flat), but even then I don't know what it's supposed to look like. I'm really looking forward to seeing the wings

Obviously I haven't worked on this since school ended... :/

You're right about the tongue though. That's the number one fix, then I think I'll start the arduous effort of animating wings!
