This is fantastic Nynke,!!!!!!

I think you have found your perfect medium.

The texture of the fur is perfect and the direction of the fur lines really defines the muscles and give the horse's head great volume.

anatomy of the head is excellent.

The way you did the reins with the highlights make it look like real leather.

This is so realistic and beautifully done.

Great choice of paper as it compliments the horse and really makes it stand out

Thank you so much for submitting the wonderful equine art to the group's weekly deviation gallery

Thank you so much Pat!!!
Yes I found indeed the medium which really suits me
But still I like it so use now and then an other medium like watercolor pencils or colored pencils.

How is your arm by the way? Have you been able to draw already a little bit more?

You have progressed in such a short time  so much from the very first pastel you did to this one. Your very good in all mediums but I feel You really excel in the pastel medium.

Thank you so much for asking.  I'm doing great after the 2nd surgery and have regained full mobility in both arms and hands.  I have been drawing again but haven't uploaded much to DA.  I'm working for a little shop that I do hand painted coaster sets.  With it getting closer to Christmas now I haven't had much time to do anything I could upload here on DA. )

Wow it nice to read you are working in an art shop now, so you really turn your hobby your job. I think there a not a lot of people who can say that

Thank you so much for your wonderful note. There are some cons to turning your art into a commercial venture for a job tho. There is always the pressure of making sure it done to the bosses expectations.

and if it's going to make a profit for the store.  It does take a bit of the pleasure and fun out of it. I like better the times I can just do art for myself and not have to worry about whether people like it or not.

Yes, I understand what you mean. When you make drawings just for yourself you just have more freedom. You can make what you want and the amount of time you will spend to it is up to you. But still I think there are far more worse jobs hahaha. But it will also depends on your boss, hope they don’t let you work to hard  . Well at least you will get experience

I do agree there are jobs far worse. lol.  I've had plenty of those over my lifetime.  Nothing like having a whole chute of 100 pounds of  packing peanuts fall on the ground because the bag was not secure. lol.

What a mess to clean up. They kept bouncing everywhere from static when I tried to sweep them up.

A short critique from

Such a beautiful horse! I love all the detail on the tack - those highlights and shadows are just perfect! The paper fits the color of the horse very well, and makes the color scheme of the drawing a lot better than just a white paper would. The fur texture is also good, and the eye is just gorgeous!

To the things you could improve. Again, crop of the bottom of the photo / the drawing, or just fill the entire paper. Or just have a fade-out effect on the entire neck. Right now I feel the bottom right corner is just unfinished.

To the mane. Compared to all the detail of the fur I feel this lacks a little, especially close to the neck. I don't have the reference photo, but I would guess there was still some detail there - especially compared to all the highlights of the tack. Right now it also looks very dark, and takes more attention than it should - people should look at the eye or face, not at the mane.

Some stray hairs which go in different directions would also improve it a bit.

But else this is another great drawing You know, I'm always happy when I get to critique your drawings, as I love to see your work and how you improve! (Also, animals - I think you know how much I love them ) Anyway, keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for the feedback
Yep again I forgot to crop the bottom off. Just too busy with other things I guess XD
But I promise next time I will don’t forget it hahahah
To the manes, yes they are indeed a little bit to dark. I must say that the real drawing is not as dark as the one I post, scanning always change the drawing at last a little bit. After years I finely found out how our printer actually works. Previously the scan was always to bright, but you can dime the light and create more contrast. So stupid hahahah. So, this saves me a lot of time, otherwise I needed to edited my drawings afterward (and I am not good at those things). But well, this one I made probably to dark, so as a result you can’t see the lighter hairs in de manes.

And yes I now how much you loves animals  , but you are absolutely not the only one
I am glad you like it to critique my artwork, it always helps me a lot (even if I still forget to crop away some parts)
