Description
Download for insanely massive detailed image.So... this is how I plan on spending the next... 3-4 years of my life lol.
The design is based loosely on descriptions of clothing from the Earth's Children series of books by Jean M. Auel, the burial at Sungir ( [link] ), and the study of Paleolithic decorated clothing at La Madeleine ( [link] ).
The tunic is worn loosely, with 3/4-length sleeves held together by beaded ties, and belted low across the hips. It comes to a fringed point in the front and the back; the back is slightly longer than the front, and is undecorated.
The leggings consist of 3 pieces sewn together, with the back half having a large flap that is drawn up between the legs and tied in place, like a loincloth. The leggings can be worn tucked into the boots, or left out. They are tucked in in this image, so the boots can be clearly seen.
The boots come to mid-calf, but can be folded down and tied in place on hot days. Each boot is tipped with 5 freshwater mollusk shells, filed down to the shape of leaves, and are meant to represent bear claws. They rattle against each other when walking.
The beads on the outfit will all be hand-made from polymer clay. I need to lose like 50 pounds so I can keep the total number of beads under 5,000. >.>;;

Wow this is insanely detailed. Very amazing. I like the idea of shells being used as claws on the shoes. Very symbolic.
It seems you have all of this planned out very well.
The only thing you need really are exact measurements. If you plan on losing weight, then make all the beads first. When you reach a desirable size then measure yourself according to the plans you have and write it all out.
If it takes to long, then use someone else as the model.
Those are the only tips I can see to keep this from taking longer than necessary.
But this plan looks real good and I cannot wait to see the ending result.
Please show us in progress images! Especially since this will take a while..it will help keep interest in the group. Plus I want to see what you do.
It is clear you have done your research
Good luck! :333

Yeah, I actually decided that part afterwards. The shells I'm actually going to be buying from Michaels and they are flat on top, but the underside is the curved inside of the shell; so they look flat from the front, but when you turn sideways, they look like they are curving down like a claw. So after I had decided I couldn't live without those shells, I was like "OHAY! BEAR CLAWZ YO!"
What I'm going to do is make the outfit first out of clothing, and then once I have it exact, just pull it apart and lay it down on the leather and cut it out. I will be making the beads first, though.
I really don't mind if it takes a long time. Honestly, no matter what I do, it will take a long time, because I'm only allowed to spend $40 out of every paycheck, so I keep having to wait until "next week or the week after" until I can afford to buy more materials. Like right now, I'm almost out of clay, but I have to wait until the 11th when I get paid before I can buy more.
I will be continuing to post updates on this project as they become available.

All beads aside, that's gonna be one heck of an outfit. Leather is REALLY expensive, and you'd need very high-quality, soft stuff for that. Unless you go the pleather route.

Nope, gonna use 100% real leather. Probably braintan deerhide... waiting on a response from some leather experts as to what would be best. That's also why I'm saying it will take 3-4 years to make it... I have to save up the money for the hides. XD

Srsly. You should also invest in some good leather embellishing tools. You might be able to do some cool detailing other than just beading. I could ask my sister about it... she's a costumer, but I don't know how much she's done with leather. I know she makes some accessories and things.
You can also add "having to buy less leather" to your list of reason to drop that weight. Just a little extra incentive, maybe?

Hmmm, good idea about tooling the leather, but the fact is that Paleolithic leather wasn't tooled, just cut, fringed, and beaded. I want it to be authentic. But if I like the process of making this outfit, then I'm totally open to making more stuff later on.
Yes, losing weight does mean less leather too.

I wonder if there's some kind of Paleolithic convention you can wear this to...

I'm sure there is. There's conventions for everything under the sun. XD

Yeah. x3 The trick would be finding it, though.

Indeed. Worst case scenario though, I can always just display it in my home.

Definitely a conversation piece. xD It just occurred to me, it would be really cool of you could make a cave painting themed background for a fish tank. That would probably be fairly unique in the world of fish tanks....

Probably a ton cheaper than making a leather suit, that's for sure. I'd kind of like to try my hand at making aquarium decor someday. It sounds fun.
