Description A tutorial I made for
Srry I didn't make it colorful or anything, it's just straight forward xD
I hope this helps, traditional art is actually very easy!
and best part about it is you don't have to be rich to do fancy art!
I saw this one 100 pack markers once, but then this little kid ran in front of me and took it and I was like,"Hey! I wanted that!"
and my parents officially think I'm weird cause I use kids markers xxP
They told me,"How old are you again?"
xxDD

Anyhow, hope you all Enjoy~

Real helpful tutorial! What brand markers are you using?
I know you said 50 pack Crayola, but when i tried searching it, it's hard to find.
Does it have all the colors?
Do you still use the same markers?

Sorry for asking so many questions.

Dream-Beam In reply to RhiaTheDigimon [2012-08-24 18:09:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I hope it can help as many traditional artists as possible ^u^
They usually sell it at Wallmart, Kmart, Michelles, Target they have it for only $5 at Target so I recommend going there first ;3
No it doesn't have all of them, so I suggest first looking for a 100 pack markers (which is usually for rose-art brand) it's around $12 which isn't that bad :'D
and yes but I don't only use these markers now, I got some new ones called blendy pens and they work really well *u*
but they don't have that many light colors, so when I need to color with lights I use the crayola or rose-art ^3^
Hope this helps~ ;3

Wow, to me this would be really helpful, but unlucky me, can't sketch (whyyyyyyyy laws of art! whyyyyy!) but at least that is just practice right?

Aww, don't worry sketching is all about proportion and practice too ofcourse c;

Glowstyle [2012-02-08 04:27:50 +0000 UTC]

Soo.... is it recomendable to use markers?
I've always hated coloring with those .__.U

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dream-Beam In reply to Glowstyle [2012-02-08 04:34:31 +0000 UTC]

Use whatever your comfortable using
Out of all the traditional media I've been using, markers are the
only type that I never had a hard time blending colors with. and the
effect after it drys gives a smooth and neat color transition. So I prefer
it to for example color pencils or paints. But you may experiment with
different media and find the one that is most effective for you ^u^

I tryed that! Fail! [link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dream-Beam In reply to RedBlastie [2011-03-16 18:31:49 +0000 UTC]

That's actually pretty good for a first try!
it also depends on the quality of markers that you use
some are too inky and leave a darker color on the paper .o.
I just figured that out last week xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RedBlastie In reply to Dream-Beam [2011-03-16 18:44:23 +0000 UTC]

Yes,my are leaving darker color..The color on marker was light orange, and it colored completely darkly.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dream-Beam In reply to RedBlastie [2011-03-17 01:30:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, gotta be careful of that
Just look for markers that are in a fancy box, then they'd be good quality ;3

RedBlastie [2011-02-13 13:39:19 +0000 UTC]

I will try this one! I have 5 or 4 blue markers in one pack so woohoo!

Dream-Beam In reply to Hakimu [2011-02-08 00:05:25 +0000 UTC]

That's actually pretty good for a first try!
Don't worry you'll get the hang of it, it took me a while to
figure out how to best blend the colors, and even now I still
mess up my drawings. ;n;
I start off with markering small doodles before I start on the
big picture ;3
But just remember after you colored both shades, then you can
always use the lighter color next to the shaded region more than once

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hakimu In reply to Dream-Beam [2011-02-08 00:17:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh this is a small doodle, trust me it took like five minutes.

Maybe I'll try again when I get better markers, lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dream-Beam In reply to Hakimu [2011-02-08 00:40:26 +0000 UTC]

Ohh, ok then don't be too hard on yourself over it
and trust me, wayy better than my first try
The best markers for pro-coloring are Prisma-color, and Copic markers.
But they are too expensive, so I advise Crayola or Roseart ;3

Hakimu In reply to Dream-Beam [2011-02-08 00:48:06 +0000 UTC]

I have these off brand ones that smell like fish. D:<

I might try your tutorial again for color pencils. I sort of already use the same technique already but hey there's always room for improvement! (;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dream-Beam In reply to Hakimu [2011-02-08 00:58:04 +0000 UTC]

Lol, fish!? I think the ink got rotten or something? xD
Are they new?
anyway, I find color pencils easier to use cause they're erasable
to an extent, but still you're about to lighten a color in case
there's a mistake. You could also try experimenting and try and
blend different colors, I heard blue makes a good dark tone for purple

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hakimu In reply to Dream-Beam [2011-02-08 01:00:21 +0000 UTC]

Blue does make a good dark tone for purple! And red makes a good light tone for purple too.

And they are very old. 5+ years.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dream-Beam In reply to Hakimu [2011-02-08 01:12:15 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I didn't know that!
I need a lot of experimenting to do myself xD
and that explains why they smell like fish
Ohh, did you know Chinese/Japanese artists'
paints are made from insect blood?! .o.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hakimu In reply to Dream-Beam [2011-02-08 01:47:18 +0000 UTC]

I didn't know that. That's kinda gross. How do they get all of the colors?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dream-Beam In reply to Hakimu [2011-02-08 02:46:34 +0000 UTC]

That's the thing, different insects had different blood colors
and they only need the 3 dominant colors Blue, yellow, and red to make
all the others
I saw them, the colors are actually very vivid and florescent but thicker
than regular pain -u-
I actually liked using it but I try not to touch it cause I know where
it came from

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hakimu In reply to Dream-Beam [2011-02-08 02:51:30 +0000 UTC]

It's not all insect blood, is it? They have to mix water or something, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dream-Beam In reply to Hakimu [2011-02-08 06:27:36 +0000 UTC]

yeah, cause initially it's way to think to just use as paint :3
and I'm pretty sure it's not just blood, there's some guts in there too > >

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hakimu In reply to Dream-Beam [2011-02-08 21:24:01 +0000 UTC]

Chunky guts?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hakimu In reply to Dream-Beam [2011-02-09 11:50:31 +0000 UTC]

Actually I want to try it now! I bet it's really expensive though.

nice tutorial
and yeah what you've told in here is true, but i would also suggest to leave blank in the white areas, like for highlights or something like that
oh and i have that 100 markers box you said you wanted XD

Dream-Beam In reply to Mitzy-Chan [2011-01-12 16:57:16 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I should have done that xP It would've given it a more shaded look ;3
