Description
Featuring Ralenti - who really should have an accent over the last letter - and Loki. The title is a line from the song "Holding Out for a Hero." Because it's appropriate for the imagery here, even though the rest of the song isn't at all, and amuses me deeply when connected to Loki, who is possibly the least heroic major character.
I didn't do any particular shading work here. I don't really have time today, but I wanted to do something for this prompt. [link]
Generally symbolic of Ralenti's fears. I found an old sketch and fixed up the lineart, added new details, and tried to make Loki look more like himself. His hair always goes from terrible to worse, but this is probably pretty accurate for the time period he was with Ralenti in South America. (I'm still not sure what country, but I know it would be the mountains. Ralenti has parents in Canada, but I'm not sure where Ralenti was born. Ralenti can't speak most of the time anyway, of course, but when Ralenti does, it's either English or Spanish.)
Loki's just kind of there. He does that a lot.
Ralenti is actually biologically female in this picture, but Ralenti, who suffers from a disorder that only affects shapeshifters and lycanthropes, can't stay very long in any form. Every few hours or so, Ralenti's body pretty much vomits itself up. It's not fun. Ralenti's mind is often muddled, with joints and bones constantly aching, and bound with bandages. One day she'll be a she, and the other a he, or very old, or young and helpless, or a misshapen thing unable to eat or sleep, just waiting for the next convulsion. Ralenti often can't recognize his/her own face.
While Loki was around, Ralenti's body stabilized for a little while. Hence actually being able to wear ordinary clothing in this picture. I'm not quite sure why his presence gives that effect. I know he's able to manipulate others the more they are open to his influence and in a state of vulnerability - with more influence if they have some emotional connection or romantic attraction to him. So it's possible he was meddling a bit there just to see what would happen.
Ralenti's greatest desire was to have a semblance of normal life... and moreover, to have a family. Loki gave the semblance only, and only for so long. And eventually, the fear returned. Unlike Loki, shapeshifting, for Ralenti, was no escape and no pleasure. Yeah, Ralenti's one of those characters that have some special power and just want to be normal. Maybe stereotypical, but with valid reasons behind it. It's pretty much destroyed any chance she has at happiness, success, and meaningful human relationships.
This form is the one in which Ralenti had a child - his name is Dillion, and he isn't a shapeshifter. He'll meet Loki later on in North America.
Oh, there's text around the rim of the... pot? Thing. Yeah. You probably can't read it. I can try and remember if someone asks, though. XD

Wow that's such a creepy fear actually, especially since poor Ralenti can't stay in one form for too long, I imagine her/his own body would be his/her greatest fear, and I love how you managed to portray that disjointed jumble of confusion! Poor thing, great picture, and also interesting to see such a different "fear"

I'm glad you enjoyed the concept! Thanks. ^_^ I guess if there's an upside, it's that the sense of dysphoria is so severe that Ralenti can't think too clearly about his/her situation, or else she/he would be suffering a lot more. Poor thing, indeed.
I can't wait to see all the other fears. Approaching Halloween is the perfect time for this sort of thing!
