Description Smoke curls up to the heavens
Lazily moved by his breath
He takes another puff
And the mist escapes again
The sun rays glint off the innocent seeming cloud
As it dissipates slowly in the surrounding air
Please have a care, she had asked

She asked me to stop, thinks he
I know she really cares for me
But can't she see?
This rolled up tobacco makes me feel so free
For one little moment
Or two or three

Ugh, the smell, the yellow teeth, she complained
The look on her face seemed so pained
I can't smell your cologne, isn't it plainly obvious?
You should be ashamed!

I said I don't mind
So if you would be so kind
Stop and desist
Or I will insist
Something you will regret
He hasn't doubted his words yet

She broke up with him
Over his little whim
Or that's what he thought
But he doesn't know
The whole of his "hobbie's" cost

The years passed, and he met someone else
She smoked too
They say a pair should share past times
They know it's true
Oh how true

They grew old together
Just like a couple should
And after that, she passed away
From lack of oxygen I believe
He knew she would

He knew it from the start
But he didn't have the heart
To be the better of the two
And stop this fake love of early death
Each breath bringing him closer
Step by step

And as he lay in that hospital bed
Without a hand to hold
Or a comforting smile
He thought back on his life
And all the while
That cigarette was always there
To comfort him, when no one else would
And the drinks to take away his sorrows
And the snorting to take the sharp edge off the hangovers
Left over from that one bottle too much
Even the love of his life couldn't soften their touch

He just couldn't let go
And he died at the age of 65
He could've stayed alive

But he had made that choice
He didn't want a perfect life
All he wanted was to live
And he thought those things would give him
That happiness, and that joy
But it's too late to turn back
It isn't his choice anymore
