Description Oh, little bird
How sweet to me you are
I caught you on the night
You were a falling star

You sat upon my finger
And chirped for me a song
Only the size of my thumb
Or maybe not as long

Your colors changed with passing time
From green to blue to grey
And after you had sung a bit
You went and flew away

I worried much, with each hour
For you were just so small
But when the moon had risen, late
You returned after all

When my eyes had laid on you
What did I behold
You were of a larger size
And brightest tinge of gold!

Oh, little bird, what is this?
What has happened to you?
For the last time you had sung to me
You were grey or green or blue!

And he replied
Without delay
"What is this
That you dismay?

Gold is the color of your love
And my size is the size of your heart
The song I sang was your compassion for me
And I felt it from the start

You never questioned who I was
Or where I had come from
Or why I was so small to you
You only gave your love"

So though my bird is larger now
And brighter than the sun
He sings to me the song I know
Of treasured things to come
