Description
Here's another one of my attempts at having a combined ranking system between the Navy ranks and the rest of the military branches. With the officer ranks, I alternated between the Navy version and the other branches (Admiral = Navy, General = other, Commodore = Navy, Colonel = other, Commander = Navy, Etc.).
I'm satisfied with the "Officer" and "Senior Officer" levels but I am open to suggestions for the "Petty Officer" names and the "Enlisted" names. However, I would like to stick with "Sergeant" names for the three cheverons, "Corporal" for the two cheverons and "Private" for the single cheveron insignias.
Comments? Suggestion?

Very clean, I like the unification both in purpose (Navy, Amry etc) and style. However, I find it a bit hard to count a bunch of dots when they aren't spaced. For example, the senior grades of petty officer are hard to distinguish and would be even more so in a hurry or in inclement conditions. There are also a huge amount of enlisted grades which might not be necessary. What would a Chief Master Private even do?Β

Presently, there are an equal number of enlisted ranks as there are officer ranks. With this unified ranks, the number of officers was expanded. To keep the number equal (or close to equal), I expanded the enlisted ranks as well. Thank you for your interest.

I like the idea of a unified rank system, but I think that perhaps you are trying to fit every possible rank into one system and that is unnecessary, and by having too many grades. Β For example in each tier, you dont need all the "Vices" and "Lts" since there are already several grades. Β Β I just think you should pair it down a bit. Β I know you are making your own system, but if you are basing it on common "western" militaries, there are too many enlisted grades, and also petty officers are NCOs just like Sergeants.
Check out BattleStar Galactica or even the original Star Wars Expanded Universe ranks; both are merged systems. Β
So here is my 2 cents for what it is worth.......................
*Senior Officers*
- Marshal
- Admiral
- General
- Commodore
- Brigadier
*Officer*
- Colonel
- Commander
- Major
- Captain
- Lieutenant
- Ensign
*Enlisted*
- Warrant Officer (3 chevrons and a rocker)
- First Sergeant (3 chevrons and star)
- Sergeant (3 chevrons)
- Corporal (2 chevron)
- Specialist (chevron and star)
- Private (chevron)
- Apprentice (2 stripes)
- Recruit (stripe)

Thank you for your feedback. The approach that I took when I first came up with this was that a bigger fleet is going to need more levels of command. If you have a squad of only two people, you are not going to need several ranks. Two ranks, at most, will be sufficient between the two of them.
During WWII, there was so many people to command that a five-star rank had to be introduced. Less than a hundred years earlier, during our civil war, we only needed a maximum of a 2- or 3-star rank.
As the fleets get bigger with members from numerous alien plants, I figured that more levels of command would be needed -- this would be both in the officer ranks and the enlisted ranks.
Thanks again for your comments.
