Description
Drawing for Storyboarding! This was the first step in creating the final 3 environments for the first project.
Here we had to use as abstract as possible shapes to create compositions based off of 3 fairy tales we were assigned to read: Bearskin, Rumpelstiltskin, and The Wicked Prince. The idea was to jot down any single words that came to mind upon reading the stories (you can see the words at the top of each section). The abstract part was to make it so you're not focusing on a story or idea right off the bat, but rather wait until later and come up with one from looking at these shapes... Needless to say most everyone in the class (myself included) were not as abstract as we could have been and either had ideas already or got them while doing this assignment.
This process of waiting for a story to develop out of shapes was something I think I am going to try from now on. It allowed my head to be virtually free of any outside ideas that I have seen and focus on just making shapes. Or by using the shapes of things I'm inspired by and trying to make something different out of it. It was both challenging and fun.
The program Alchemy (found at al.chemy.org) is a random shape generating free to download program that is really interesting and I highly advise giving it a shot! It takes some time to get used to, and thus I didn't use it for this assignment but it is fun to play around with. Essentially it's a digital version of throwing ink onto paper xP
