“SON OF A BITCH” Screeched Cade as Kay came to a halt, the muffled sounds of a distant explosion coming through the Cab as he growled.
“First tank in Column is gone, Turret just landed” replied the calm voice of Louie as he watched the Tanks in the column stagger and try and spread out. Not fast enough for one of the Shermans, another explosion rocketing the column as Cades paw grabbed at his and his co-driver stick, jamming them backwards as he angled Kay to the forest.
“Go go GO, NOW” He exclaimed, both him and Connor slamming the sticks forward as Kays large body bounced almost down the ditch, the sound of crunching trees and brushes sounding from their front as Kays form slammed through the younger forest, mowing down the vegetation in front of them. Distant explosions sounded, muffled by the noise of the engine and metal around them, though the hit in their chests was enough proof that shit was going down, bad for the tanks behind them.
“Son of a god damn bitch, the fuck we drive into huh? The whole fucking German army” growled Cade, wincing as Kay passed over a deep rut in the ground, jarring his spine.
“Either that, or we fucking ran into a ambush. Should have known the fucking known the 31st wouldn’t do shit, they just want to fucking get to Berlin, not giving a damn about us in the back with the leftovers” snorted Darnel, bracing himself against the gun each bump they went over.
“We’re dealing with something big enough to fucking kill Shermans in one hit, and quickly at that. Ain’t a damn Panzer, thats for damn sure” grumbles Louis, huffing angrily.
“Not a Panzer, too loud of gun” replied Kay quickly, her heavy accent voice filtering through their headset as another loud explosion, this time close by, and growing closer each time it sounded off.
“Whatever it is, we need to slow down. If it's a Living machine going off, we need to make sure we don’t alert them of-” tried to say Cade, Kays voice echoing back and cutting him off, ‘Ahead, I see the barrel, long; flat-ish tank, no turret” she cut him off, Muller ears perking at the statement.
“Sounds like StuG, tank Destroyer” he replied in heavy German, a groan coming from the other furries in the tank as Kay rolled to a stop.
“Fucking great, our luck, run into a goddamn tank killer, what fucking else huh, a squadron of fucking SS troops?” he growled. A low growl came from the turret, Kay moving her gun slowly into position as the StuG III fired once more, smoke billowing their line of site as the sound of shells from their own Shermans impacting near them sounded. “Next time she fires, we are gunning it, I want to give these fucks a chance to surrender, and hopefully the sight of a fucking Destroyer staring at them will give them that. They don’t, I want them blown to hell and back boys”” Cade stated, earning mumbled approval from his fellow comrades around him. His paws gripped the controls, tightening around the sticks as he waited, and waited.
Another loud rumble slammed the tank, smoke blinding Louie as Cade growled. “NOW CONNOR” he yelled, slamming his sticks forward, the Gazelle next to him slamming his forward as well. The roar of Kays GAZ engine filled the cabin, the tank lumbering forward, her barrel turning more to the tank as they burst through the clearing, throwing vegetation around them as her treads dug into the soft mud. A growl filled the cabin, Kays’ barrel locked onto her target as she turned to face it.
Another explosion sounded, a shell scraping the back of the hull and detonating into a embankment, earning yelps from the cabin at the defining roar that shook their hull. Violet eyes narrowed as the Stug started to turn slowly towards them. “Shell, NOW!” she screamed through their headsets. Andrew and Louis sprung into action, their paws and hooves grabbing at the mammoth shell, slamming it into the breech as the Stug turned more and more, lining its barrel up with Kay.
“LOADED” Yelled Andrew, ducking down as Darnell closed the breach shut, joining Andrew on the ground, followed by Louis as Kay growled.
“FIRING!” She exclaimed. A mighty roar filled the cabin, the barrel and breech slamming hard backward, sending the crew down against the controls from the sudden sound wave that hit them. Kay’s body jerked backwards, her mighty 130mm gun spewing its shell out at speeds faster than one could blink. The crew of the StuG had no chance, the large shell ripping through the turret, spewing shrapnel in its interior, shredding its crew in a motion faster than one could blink as the shell blew out the back of the turret. Smoke quickly drifted out of the entrance and exit of the openings, the tank coming to a dead stop
“Roll call” cough Cade, groaning at the stick slammed against his gut as he slowly leaned back, wincing slightly as he tried to gain his breath back after such a recoil. Groans filled his ears, his crew trying to pry themselves back up after the firing, some of them coughing or giving mumbled of okay. “Fucking hell, note.. To self.. Seatbelts” he whined as a arm draped his gut, wincing at the pain; Yep, bruises later. He reached over with his free arm, patting hi co-driver, Connor whimpering after his driving sticks had slammed into his lower stomach and pelvis.
Cade grunted, staggering slowly to the hatch, Kay popping it open for him, his free paw pulling his body upwards, dragging up top where he sprawled on his back, sighing softly as he stared up at the clear blue skies above him. A groan escaped between his muzzle as he slowly sat up, wincing at the surely bruised gut as more of his crew slowly dragged themselves out, each one in different pain as they laid about on Kays turret and hull. “Note for later, pillow bodies when firing” he grumbled, various forms of agreement coming from the Crew. Cade swung and dropped himself off the side of Kay, wincing as he landed on his boots, leaning against Kay as smoke idly trailed out of the hit StuG.
One of her Kays appendages came down, patting his helmented head, earning a grumble from Cade as he swung with a free arm, batting at her hand, earning a deep throaty chuckle from the tank as he stumble walked over to the StuG. His nose wrinkled at the smell of burnt flesh and scorched metal coming from the tank as he laid a paw against the hull.
The sound of crunching leaves and branches came to his side, Muller rubbing the back of his bruised head as he grumbled loudly. “You’re tank kicks like mule” he muttered annoyed, Cade giving a nod of approval as his paw traced a stencil on the StuGs turret; L/M.
“Muller, what does this mean on yah turrets?” he asked, Muller walking over, raising a eyebrow as he noted the symbol.
“Lebensstil Maschine, or Living Machine” he stated, earning a raised eyebrow from Cade as they looked at the tank turret.
“That doesn’t make sense, the tank ain’t done shit so far tah proof she is one” he said, raising a paw, scratching at the underside of his muzzle as Muller nodded.
“You got knife?” he asked, turning his head form the turret to Cade. The dog nodded, bending down and wincing, regretting the action immediately at the pain flared in his gut. His arm gripped his gut harder as he tilted slightly, trying to alleviate the pain a bit as his free paw grabbed at the handle of his knife, yanking it upwards as he let a low hiss of discomfort, handing the knife over to his comrade, who gladly took it. Muller turned the knife in his hand, smacking the handle of it against a piece of the turret, a dull soft thud was heard. “Now we test” he stated, Cade standing slightly hunched to the side as he watched the German smack the handle of the knife against various pieces of the mantle and hull around the gun, testing for spots.
In one spot, a different noise could be heard, a low thump almost in sound quality as he raised a eyebrow. “Aufwachen, aufwachen” he stated annoyingly, smacking the spot again, and again with the knife handle. A low grating noise could be heard coming from the spot, Muller quickly pulling the knife back as the panel slid downwards as a silver eye looked over at the German dog, narrowing slightly as a hiss came from the tank.
“Verräter” angrily replied a higher pitched female voice, the StuG snarling as smoke drifted from the opening in her body. Muller snorted, narrowing his eyes at the tank at the comment.
“Halt deine Scheißfresse” he growled, both Germans growling at each other as Kays annoyed sounding voice sounded.
“Both of you, shut it. Will not hesitate to shoot StuG again” she growled, the smaller StuGs eyes moving to Kay, who barrel was pointed now directly at one of her eyes. The smaller StuG gave a soft whimper, but said nothing else as Cade smacked the back of Mullers head, earning a loud yelp as the paw smacked the bruise on the back of his head.
“You cut that shit out as well Muller, don’t antagonize our Prisoner, Only one who can have a angry attitude around here is Kay, and you don’t fuck with Kay” growled the CO, Muller grumbling under his breath as Kay gave a snort. The sound of a engine sounded through the field, a small jeep pulling up besides the pair, a familiar looking major hopping out of the driver seat and walking over to the pair, a eyebrow raised.
“I see that I was correct in using the Tank Destroyer Kay in my column, otherwise this StuGs crew could have taken more than two Shermans down” he stated, folding his arms behind his back as more Jeeps pulled up, some of the furries hoping out to tend to the still groaning crew of Kay.
“Yah, well her gun kicks like ah angry feral mule, we gonna need tah brace more next time we fire, or get seatbelts” grunted Cade with a small frown as other furries of the column jumped on top of the StuG, earning a growl from the female, silenced quickly by a loud growl coming from Kay. “Don’t yah try nothing girl, Kay has no taking yah ass down, she would love tah get some payback so ah would advice not pissin her off” Cade stated firmly, the StuG mumbling in German as the soldiers on top of her opened her hatch, starting to remove the destroyed bodies of her crew.
“Well, I’m glad you didn’t destroy the StuG, Even if she won’t talk, I'm sure the other battalions and columns will love to know her weaknesses, first time I can remember of one of them being captured intact, we’re usually lucky enough to get burned out hulks” stated the Major as Cade softly nodded, Muller walking to the medics enar Kay, rubbing the back of his head and hissing at the pain.
“Yah well, ah’m just glad we could get thah bitch before she could wipe all of us out” grunted Cade in response.
“By the way, I would like to know why your crew did not respond to our hails. If we had known you were trying to go and actually tank a shot, I would have had the Shermans pull back and out of the way of fire. Only thing I knew about you was that the Half track teams behind you saw you roar into the forest, beyond that I had no idea what you were doing” asked the Major as the last German body from their prisoner was put on the ground, one of the soldiers already in the process of digging a small trench for the corpses.
“Didn't wanna work, the Radio ah mean. We could yah yah, but we couldn't transmit nothin tah yah. It was aggravating as hell cause we saw the wrecked Panzer ah mile or more before yah did, couldn’t do shit bout it” grumbled Cade, hissing at the pain in his gut, Jackson taking note of the pain the CO was in at the moment.
“Right, we will have that looked at. You on the other hand, need to go to medic. I won’t have one of my COs walking around like a dead man from pain” Major Jackson said, with a wave of his hand. Cade grunted in response, giving a lazy salute as he staggered away from the Major, moving to Kay and leaning against her, hissing softly as he staggered against he, falling on his ass, head resting against her as a medic walked over to him. “Gut, hurts ah lot” he said through clenched teeth, canines flashing in the sunlight as the medic nodded, bending down with a syringe in his paw, pressing it slowly against his arm.
Cade gave a low sigh of release at the feeling of Morphine racing through his body, the pain but a distant memory it felt like as the medic smiled, pulling the syringe away and walking away. Cade murred softly, reaching up, unclasping, and removing his helmet, letting it fall to the ground as his sweaty fur got the breeze it needed. He could feel something gently rub between his ears, a low murr escaping from the dog as his tail softly thumped against the ground in pleasure.
“Yah say nothing about this tah anyone” he sighed happily, feeling Kays hand run and scratch at the top of his head. Kays chuckle was music to his ears, flickering them slightly as he let her scratch and scratch away. He softly murred, leaning back as far as he could, letting her magical hands work away into his scalp.
He grunted in annoyance as she stopped, her hand patting his head before pulling. He tilted his head up, frowning. “Yah damn tease” he grunted, her softly chuckling making his ears softly twitch as he folded his arms gently, letting the morphine in his system do its magic.
“Cade?”
A voice brought Cade out of his stupor, his blue eyes opening and staring at the skinny donkey in front of him, scowling in annoyance.
“Yah, what do yah want, ah;m enjoying mahself right” he grumbled, folding his arms against his chest as the donkey looked away from him.
“Erm, me and Stacey, we’re going to the Panzer, was asking if… yah know… wanted to come?” stammered the donkey softly, pushing his hooves against each other gently as Cade gave a grunt. He pushed himself off the ground, using Kay as a brace as he rose up onto his paws slowly.
“Why not, ah got nothing better tah do ah guess, just don’t ask me tah shoot nothing, ah would miss badly” he stated, staggering slightly as he walked, the donkey quickly following after him as he moved to get to the German halftrack, with the donkey, *what was his name, Joe? Joey? James He couldn't remember with the haze*, trailing behind him.
Stacey's eyes turned to the pair, grinning as she watched the two move up the embankment, badly in Cades case, waving a appendage at the donkey. “Hi Johnny!” she grinned, her German accent not nearly as thick as Mullers was with how long she had been around the battalion by this point.
“Johnny, that was it” muttured the dog to himself softly as the donkey, Johnny,” grinned back at the half track, giving her hood a pat, a giggle coming from her.
“Good!, Cade joined I see” she said with a grin, eyes moving to the dog, who merely grunted in response as he staggered over to her rear passenger access, grumbling as he pulled himself into the area, laying on the floor and sighing as Johnny entered her driver compartment. “Cade okay?” asked Stacey concerned, her engine rumbling as Johnny shifted her into drive.
“He’s okay, just kind of high” he replied softly, Cade groaning, but having the energy to raise his arm, flipping off the driver before dropping his arm with a thud, grunting as they moved past the still smoldering Sherman tanks, moving past the stationary column as they drove towards the Panzer in the distance. Cades head rolled around on the metal floor, the dog groaning softly at the passing Sky as his paws reached up, rubbing his eyes softly.
“Fucking drugs” he muttered softly to himself as the sound of softly squealing brakes could be heard, the vehicle coming to a slow and eventual stop under him. He slowly raised his upper body, almost falling over, “Maybe coming was a bad idea”, before finally getting onto his hands and knees, and eventually back onto his feet as Johnny meet him.
“You okay Cade?’ he asked softly, Cade nodding softly as stumbled onto the rear hatch, pushing it open and staggering to the ground, giving it a weak closing as he looked at him, the corners of his eyes slightly red by now.
“Ah’m fine, just dont ask me tah shoot anything… or look quickly at anything” he said, muttering the last part quietly as he moved to the burnt out looking Panzer, frowning slightly at the damage as he got closer. He stopped right of its rear, tilting his head and frowning as Johnny joined him, crunching gravel behind him indicating that Stacey had as well. “This fire damage is… wrong” he said, his frown deepening as the other two looked at him.
“What you mean Cade?” asked Johnny , tilting his head at the dog as Cades paw reached up, brushing soot of the upper rear of the German tank.
“Fire was wrong, didn’t come from any opening, like someone set it on fire on top of it” he said with a grunt, his eyes looking at the soot on his paw before he brushed it on his uniform, his eyes catching something softly shining on the lower portion of the tank as he did so. He slowly kneeled down, nearly falling forward against the tank, a paw reaching out and bracing himself against it as he stared at the silver material, some of it having gathered up top, though most of it was against the rear, with a dried silver puddle underneath the tank. “Ah’ve seen this stuff before, but ah’m so dman high right now ah can’t fucking remember were” he said, slowly pushing himself up as Johnny eyes darted from the material back to Cade.
“I think-I think I’ve seen it as well?” he stated softly, stammering a bit as he followed after Cade, who was currently walking away from the rear of the Panzer, circling along her side as he frowned more and more, deeping it as he looked at the fire damage, the most sever up top, along her whole top and turret, like she had been ablaze from front to back at one point. His paw slowly, shakingly, reach up and brushed some of the soot off, staring at the cracked painted letters along the side of the turret: L/M.
He deeply breathed in and out, staring at it as Johnny joined him at his side. Johnny looked at were the dogs eyes were, frowning slightly as he looked at the letters.
“L/M?” he asked, Cades response a deep, angry growl.
“Means ah fucking living machine, like Stacey and Kay. Ah fucking knew were ah had seen that fucking silver material from. Its cum, fucking cum, its splattered all over her fucking ass” he stated angrily, a soft gasp coming from the half track behind him as Johnny's eyes softly widened. “ She was ah fucking trophy for the Shermans, ah fucking bet yah. Knocked her out with ah shell, killed her crew, than they fucking set HER. ON. FIRE” he exclaimed, paws tightening as he growled angrily. “Must have fucking thought the heat would cause her ammo tah go the fuck up” he added as he reached into the pocket of his jacket, retrieving his gun.
“Cade, man, put the gun back, you-” tried to say, interrupting himself with a loud yelp as Cades head snapped to him, snapping his jaws at him as he growled angrily, tail lashing about as he growled.
“Yah shut thah fuck up, ah need tah make sure we got ah live one, or ah fucking corpse. Those fucking Shermans ahead of us better hope she’s alive” he growled as he winced, giving his head a soft shake as the morphine fucked with him, making him dizzy a bit. After a second of two, allowing his head to get back straight, he clambered on top of the Panzers hull as he turned the .38 in his paws, smacking the handle against parts of the turret, listening to the thuds it made.
Stacey and Johnny rolled near the tank, Stacey's mouth slowly morphing more and more into a frown as the dog repeatedly smacked the turret in different spots, the sound always the same.
“Cade… Don’t think shes alive” she said softly, Johnny's hoove coming up to rub her hood softly as Cade stopped after the last smack, sighing softly as he gently closed his eyes.
“Fucking scummy pigs. If only we got here sooner, we could have saved her AND the StuG” he said softly. Under his boots, he could feel the tank stiffen at the comment, his eyes snapping open as he looked down at her, the paw holding the gun quickly shoving it back into his jacket before slowly leaning over the turret. “Hey.. We saved the StuG. She’s okay, angry, and her crew it dead, but shes alive. We’re not gonna hurt you okay? We don't even have any male vehicles around, and I would be damned to hell if ah let ah single one push themselves on yah like those Shermans ahead of us did”
He waited a couple of seconds, waiting for a response from the tank. After a bit , he softly sighed, pushing himself gently away from the tank as he softly patted her turret. He was slowly turning away from the tank when the soft grinding of warped metal against metal could be heard, his head snapping to the sound as a pair of Amber eyes, red and irritated from the heat and smoke, looked towards him.
“Mia? Mia fien?” replied the voice softly, a gasp coming from his side as Stacey pushed herself against the side of the tank, her appendages coming out, hands gently rubbing the soot around the Panzers eyes as Cade softly smiled.
“She’s fine, angry and cursing us out, But she’s fine for what happened to her” he said softly, the Panzers eyes softly closing as her body softly trembled.
“Gu-Gut, Sehr Gut” she said softly, gently closing her eyes and softly sighing as Johnny joined Cade as the turret.
“Johnny, go clean ehr other eye why don’t yah, ah’m afraid tah move really, mah balance ain’t what it usual is” said Cade, smiling as the donkey nodding, moving quickly over the top of the turret, moving to the Panzers other eyes, it cracking open again as the donkey used his shirt to softly remove the irritating soot from around the edges. “Stacey, call the others, let them know the Panzer is alive. Also tell them, tah let thah StuG know her Panzer friend is alive” he added onto, smiling as Staceys engine rumbled, getting to it quickly as Rusty moved into replace her, licking his fingers, running his paw gently over the edges of her eyes, wiping the soot around it as he smiled.
The angry roar of a engine could be heard, the dogs ears twitching as he stopped the clean up, looking up from beside the turret and narrowing his eyes slightly. That… wasn’t a jeep he thought, staring at the clearly damaged silhouette of a StuG rearing up the hill.
“Well.. she’s taking her friends survival well” he muttered softly to himself as he watched the tank destroyer turn down the road. He could hear the other soldiers around her yelling, probably at her as she gunned it down the road towards the four. “Surprised she got around Kay” he added, biting his bottom lip softly as Johnny looked to the comotion
, blinking softly.
“Shes not gonna hurt us, right?” he softly said, the StuG getting closer and closer it seemed, quite rapidly as well. Cade could see others mobilizing behind the tank destroyer, jeeps moving quickly toward them, hell even a Sherman, yep, definitely Isah, move towards them, trying to catch up to the rapidly moving StuG.
“Hmm didn’t realize those tanks could move that fast… you may want to move kid” Cade stated quickly, Johnny not wasting any time and vaulting over the top of the turret, Stacey catching him as he tripped and fell, pulling him against her hood as he oofed softly. Cade rolled his eyes, jumping onto the ground , stumbling as he did, nearly falling face first as he groaned. He braced himself against Stacey, the sound of the StuG, Mia, growing close till the sound of gravel being kicked out and tossed could be heard, Mia coming to a hard stop next to the damaged Panzer as her hand reached out, rubbing the side of her quickly as the Panzers damaged eyes looked over to her, a smile softly forming on her lips.
“Emma! Emma! Geht's dir gut?!” the StuG said rapidly, the Panzer giving a raspy laugh as her hand reaching out and grabbing Mia’s, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“Nein, Aber Ich lebe” replied Panzer, Emma, softly. Mia whimpering softly as oil slowly seeped from the corners of her eyes.
“Yah asked if she was gonna hurt us kid, nah, shes just happy her friend is alive after all” said Cade, turning to the donkey and smiling softly before turning back to the pair of Germans, his smile continuing as the jeeps pulled up, Furries piling out and rushing to the pair.
“Shes just happy” he said softly, before he fell against the side of Stacey, sliding to the ground as a snore emanated from his mouth.
