Description My mouth is full of cotton candy,
this pink homespun cloud-sugar, airy
and sweet and gossamer.
This is the taste of carnival.

They’re walking in the direction I am from
as I walk away,
We are destined to meet only once
Unless—
The world is round,
(We all know it’s not, it’s
a convoluted tangle of orange yarn.
Deliberately inefficient.)
and we walk across oceans and continents
to meet again.

I hate cotton candy.

It’s spread from my mouth to my lungs,
Each breath is shallow,
the pink dye has changed color
and my mouth my lungs
are suffocating with red sugar.

A walking shambles, I am
A modern wreck and can paint
a school girl’s face over my own.
But I’ve forgotten the costume.

I am not an announcer, I wait
for someone to notice but I tell myself
that the people walking away don’t see and
are ignorant beyond their sphere
To avoid what I hope is not the truth—

I, a mess, am commonplace
and people crash on the rocks
to drown every day.
Breaking apart and being sewn back together
(The Amazing Human Yarn Doll!  One Day Only!)
Is not enough to be a sideshow attraction.
