Description
I have a collection of thingsThat don’t work.
I have a bell that doesn’t ring
(but it’s pretty to look at)
And a necklace made of keys
That don’t unlock doors or chests or hearts
Rings that won’t slide off fingers
And half-formed fledgling thoughts
That never make it to my mouth.
So I shouldn’t be surprised that when
You asked me to go on a date
I said yes.
Because you were the one asking.
And I have a joker’s mask
That’s too small to wear.
And I have an idol of a god
That no one worships anymore.
Because they stopped believing.
And I never told you but
I hate losing those things.
Except when I taught you that tear
Is spelled the same way whether
You’re crying or being pulled away from someone.
(Just so you know:
The keys are carved
With the words “journey” and “new beginnings”).

Ohhh...lovely.
That's so similar to something that happened to me.
You have some nice metaphoric one-liners in there melded in with the basic to-the-point "action" sections...it's a good blend.

Thank you very much!
Sorry to hear that it happened to you though, it's not exactly the happiest experience.

I really loved this--especially the line with keys, I liked how it sort of tied things together.
Very beautifully written.
