Where to begin? First of all I suppose I should note that I marked this one "advanced critique encouraged" because I'd really like to learn what I'm doing right/wrong here. I started with a few ideas in Terragen and ended up adding all the fog, rays, and other details in Photoshop completely from scratch. (Minus the birds of course - many thanks to ~Lady-Dementia for the brushes.)

If anyone has suggestions especially in regards to the overall composition please feel free to voice them. The painting and such is something I'm slowly trying to pick up on so I welcome any thoughts on that as well. The more feedback and ideas I get from this and other previous work the more equipped I'll be to springboard into something new and better later!

Many thanks for viewing, hope you enjoy the image!

Looks nice, I always give advanced critique to those who request it, but I have minimal experience with Terragen...I'm afraid this is just a compliment-only comment

Im no surface expert, but maybe one extra layer on the black rocks would add a bit of extra detail. But, it still looks nice. I really like the fog, and the birds are a plus too. There is a lot of realism in it.

Thanks - I'm in the midst of a lot of experimentation with my surface maps so I really appreciate any thoughts there. I've got some new ideas for them after this render though so I'll keep what you said in mind! Thanks again for stopping by.

it's great, but one thing... it's above the line where nothing grows, wo what are pidgeons doing there they are too small for such heights

Haha, ya know I never thought of them as pigeons but I suppose that's what they look like huh? Guess you got me on that one!

Thanks for the comments.

That is very good. The clouds are great and subtle. My only suggestion would be to make the snow less clumpy and more in one place. I don't know what your surface maps look like, but you could achieve that if you put the snow as the base surface and the rocks on top, changing the distribution accordingly.

Many thanks for the input - I really appreciate it. The surface map I settled on for this render actually did have rocks on top, but I'm all ears for ideas because I've been trying to work with my surface maps more lately. I'll try a few things and hopefully have another snow image not too far in the future. Thanks again for the comments!

It's beautiful. Maybe the volumetric light behind the foreground terrain should be a little more transparent though? It's overpowering what I think are clouds somewhat.
Lovely colours, very soft and pastelly. Great work!

Many thanks - the clouds/fog layer was something I kept adding to, changing, removing...changing again...etc. so looking back on it now I can see what you mean. Definitely something to keep a sharp eye on in the future. Thanks for the comments!

nice one! I like the effects on it! Only, if I were you I made the purple/blue sky somewhat more mysterious...But it's lovely <3

Thanks for the comments - I think I see what you mean about the sky and I'll keep that in mind! Thanks again.
