It was so cold, bright and far too large of a place. His brown eyes blinked as he tried to adjust to the harsh light of the sun. A blur was all he saw of his new world, simple shapes and colours mixed together like abstract art. What a frightening place he had found himself in. Large monster like shapes loomed over him as he stared up at them, the bright lights still blinded his vision. He could hear voices, although calming still confused him, unable to fully understand what was being said.
He didn't want to be there. He wanted to go back to the dark warm place he had come from. As he inhaled roughly, lungs still learning how to work properly, a sweet and comforting scent filled his nostrils. As he tried to become more accustom to his new world he could make out one of the large shades moving closer towards him. Quietly he stared towards it and a welcoming feeling followed as the large shadow began to groom his wet fur. The moment he felt her tongue a small squeak formed from his mouth. He enjoyed the feeling, naturally knowing the one who was doing it was the one he had just been birthed from. His mother.
His body shivered a little as a light breeze tickled him. Finally the world began to take shape. His head wobbled a little as the fawn gazed around. The longer he lay there on the earth and felt the loving feeling of his mother he knew the place he had ended up wouldn't be as bad as he first thought. A light push on his rump caused the colt to bleat in protest. His instinct to stand slowly began to take over but a seemingly stubborn personality refused to listen to the push until he felt it was the right time.
Wiggling his hind legs out from under his body the bay fawn struggled to lift himself up. His back legs extended up as he pushed his butt into the air and attempted to pull his front legs up as well. The motion happened so fast he had to pause and steady himself. Eyes staring up towards his mother as she gave him a reassuring lick. He bleated again, scaring himself as his unsteady legs buckled under him. Falling face first into the hard ground below the colt held to position for a brief moment.
He refused to fall over completely. His body wobbled back and forth. Legs shook a little as he used muscles he’d never used before. Setting his back legs up once again he lifted his head up to stare at the world he had once refused to be a part of. Carefully and with an ungraceful move he shifted his body until he stood proudly on all four. With a new view of the world, the colt slowly took a look around before taking a few steps to hide behind his mother.
