Description
For the sake of fun and benefit of my animation abilities I'm going to try to do all the exercises from this list: www.animatorisland.com/51-greaβ¦If you animate/want to try animating, I encourage you to try these as well! (And link me to them, I'd love seeing others' animations.)
Also, I appreciate critiques.

Awww, such a cute li'l owl. X3
The animation is really smooth and fluid, and the expressions are well done.

The head turn animation is very smooth. I like how you dipped the head of the bird as it was turning its head. Great job.

Nice animations, very smooth
They look like they were done entirely with the straight-ahead method ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8quCb⦠). If you want to keep the character shape and size consistent (as well as have complete control over the timing) I suggest drawing just the keyframes first for the main parts of the animation, then filling in the in-betweens (the pose-to-pose method). That is, if realism is what you're going for. Pure straight-ahead animation like you did is great for a very surreal, flowing vibe, though, if that's what you want.

I've been trying to work with keys, but I have trouble staying...interested when the process becomes so mechanical, I've found I work best when I combine the two methods, drawing some frames straight ahead, then an extreme, then filling out the inbetweens, and measuring the dimensions of my character so they don't change size, but this only really works when animating digitally; whenever I animate on paper, it's always stright-ahead
thanks!Β

Thanks
Do you mean it should jump a little more on the anticipation or the action or both?

Durring the anticipation it is fine, I'm talking about the secondary action (keep in mind it has been a while since I have used these terms). Like after he stops it seems like the hair would be pushed up more do to the force.

1. This is fantastic.
2. Well... I tried doing a head turn... tomtalonpipes.deviantart.com/a⦠, but it's not very good.
If you're really interested.

It looks good to me
If you want to make it a bit more interesting and realistic, add more frames just before the last frame so that slows as it settles into place.

Thanks a lot! I guess I had a higher expectation of the drawing based on the sketch (there was a nice dip that didn't translate to the line art).
And I'll try that, thanks again .
