This is my newest hero for the group I'm part of. It's about a town where superheroes, villains, neutrals, and antiheroes all live side by side. But how long will peace last?



Name: Teal Amazonia Rivers
Nickname(s): T., Water Warrior, Baby Blue (which is NOT her favorite!)
Age: 27
Power:   Hydrokinesis = User can create, shape and manipulate water, in its liquid, gas (steam, water vapor), or solid (ice) form, including changing them from one state to other.

Stance: Hero
Occupation: She got her basic four year college degree, majoring in archaeology with a minor in history. No career yet.
Appearance:   As you can see from her picture above her eyes are large, almond shaped, and blue-green. Her hair is sky blue and often worn in braids, up-dos to stay out of the way in battle/training, or a long flowing ponytail. Her skin is a gorgeous bronze color. Teal is 5 ft 5 in (165.1 cm) tall, and strong and athletically built but still pleasantly curvaceous. She doesn’t exactly have a particular clothing style. She wears all sorts of things. She likes clothes that remind her of or are inspired by the garments of her Atlantean and Amazon ancestors. She likes blues, greens, and white because it reminds her of water. She almost always wears blue lipstick. For the most part Teal just prefers things that are at least somewhat practical but still pretty. She wants to feel good about her exotic looks but she doesn’t want anyone to forget that she’s a warrior! Now for the explanation of what she's wearing in the picture. On the left is a normal outfit for her. The center one is a dress she wears for Atlantean ceremonies and the one on the right is her Amazon warrior outfit.
Personality: “Water is patient, Adelaide. Water just waits. Wears down the cliff tops, the mountains. The whole of the world. Water always wins.”
“There is nothing softer and weaker than water, and yet there is nothing better for attacking hard and strong things. For this reason there is no substitute for it.” These two quotes were on a website describing the superpower hydrokinesis (the power to manipulate water) and I tried to let them inspire her personality somewhat.
Teal is quite intelligent and curious but she is also determined and focused most of the time. She can be a serious, warrior-like young woman much of the time but she also has a much softer side. She’s devoted and affectionate to those she loves. She’s very protective of animals, especially aquatic ones. She loves being active and busy but she also loves to take time out to sit and read. There are many sides and aspects to this young lady! That’s the thing about Teal. Her moods can be as changeable as the water she controls, ebbing and flowing like the tide. She can be the serious water warrior one moment and the next crack a smile and burst out laughing and acting like an ordinary cheerful young woman. She can fly into a rage only to forgive and forget a few moments later. It seems that Teal is just rather unpredictable, a fact that often makes people not want to be around her. Needless to say, she’s always had trouble making and keeping friends, which bothers her quite a bit!
Likes: Swimming, diving, surfing, animals, reading, studying ancient cultures and their legends with her father, listening to her mother talk about world travel and her military days, the color blue, trying out different fashion and hair styles, meeting others with unique gifts and powers, travel, practicing her water abilities, yoga and tai-chi types of moves for stretching and strengthening, trail mix, watermelon, saltwater taffy, Caesar salad, tacos, egg rolls, music with inspiring lyrics or that she can train with, sensual energetic dances like the Tango and Paso Doble, and just sitting down with a coloring book or printed line art and coloring for relaxation. Oh and her favorite animals are… sharks (especially great whites, hammerheads, and the adorable little horned sharks), dolphins, manta rays, manatees, orcas, clownfish, whales, octopus, sea slugs, butterflies, water loving dog breeds, horses, sea horses, and platypus.
Dislikes: Most insects, really short shorts, politics, inequality of any kinds, not being believed if reveals her powers or origins, water pollution, over fishing, break dancing, the color neon green (reminds her of some weird radioactive toxic sludge for some reason), sushi, shark fin soup, superstitious traditional medicines made from endangered animal body parts, cotton candy, steak, droughts and deserts, alcohol, cigarettes, illegal drugs, criminals, and bullies in general. She fears… the death of her parents, being a disappointment to the memory of her ancestors, failing at things, never being able to make her mark on the world despite her distinct advantages, and somehow losing/having her powers taken away from her.
Characteristics/Mannerisms: Teal’s accent is rather unusual. She was born in England but her family lived all over the world on military bases throughout her childhood and teenage years. So she picked up sounds and slang from all over. This jumble makes her quite unique sounding but indiscernible as to her origins. Her body posture is almost always strong, confident and at attention (like her military mother taught her) and she sometimes has to be reminded to relax, especially when posing for photos, etc.

Fun Fact(s): Teal was originally a model for a superhero themed model challenge I was in. Unfortunately I had to quit but they told me I could keep her to use as an OC since I put some effort into creating her character. Yay! Thanks allyvania88 !
Backstory:    Teal Amazonia Rivers was born into a rather unique family. Her mother, Atlantia Rose was a very distant descendant of both the legendary Amazon warriors and the only family to escape the destruction of the famous lost city (or continent) or Atlantis! That meant that, according to some of the legends, Teal and her mother were extremely distantly related to/associated with the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon (who founded Atlantis) and the god of war, Ares who was associated with the Amazons. Her father James Rivers was a scholar obsessed with ancient cultures and their legends. When he first met Atlantia Rose, James didn’t believe a word or her claims (though he really wanted to) and simply thought she was someone else with a similar obsession who made up a great story to get some attention. However, the longer they talked, the longer he knew her, and the more plausible sounding details she was able to provide, the more he started to trust her. After a few years they married. A year after that, shortly after revealing she was expecting a baby girl, Atlantia Rose gave James some much more concrete proof of her origins. She showed him how she was able to manipulate water. She wasn’t very good at it, having long ago decided to keep it a secret and focus instead on regular physical strength and fighting skills so that she could join the military, not end up as one of their experiments. Still it was amazing and James was forced to reconsider the validity of his wife’s claims once and for all. He’d always been on the fence about whether or not to believe his beloved. He’d decided early on that this wasn’t something she was deliberately making up to fool him. Atlantia Rose really did believe what she was saying. The scholar was certain of that! It was just a question of whether what she claimed was true or whether she was somehow confused, mistaken, or perhaps slightly deluded. Seeing her powers in action changed all that. Now there was no denying that his wife’s story was in fact true! Teal came along soon after and was raised with tales of the Amazons and the lost city (or continent) of Atlantis. She was brought up with heavy emphasis put on things like mental and physical strength, healthy habits, appreciation of the ancients and their legends, intelligence, curiosity, the responsibility to defend those weaker than herself, the responsibility to care for the earth and all its creatures, the importance of learning and education, etc. Very little importance were put on things like wealth, looks or at least not obsessing over them, gossip, acting like or being treated like a princess, getting her own way, popularity, etc. She was a happy child, very close to her parents, and loving the way the family moved from place to place due to her mother’s work in the military. She didn’t have much luck making friends but she filled her time with study, working on her water/combat/self-defense skills, and spending time with her family. School was pretty uneventful for her. When she graduated Teal felt a little lost. Should she pursue an intellectual or academic career like her father, a military career like her mother, or something a little different? Maybe something like law enforcement, archaeology, something to do with conservation, or even some type of athletics involving water sports. She really didn’t know what she wanted. So she just drifted. Even now, despite going to college in the unique city full of heroes and villains, she still is uncertain what the right path for her life is. She just knows she wants to make a difference in the world! That's why she decided to use her powers and all the skills her parents taught her to become a hero in the town. Still she feels a little empty not having made any real friends and not always being willing to tell people who she really is and what she can do. Hopefully she’ll find her purpose and people to love soon!
