yeah basically !! set up the color palette during the thumbnail and then keep an eye on transitioning from color to color c: pixelart is the only thing i use one color/area per layer for, so this one had about 70 layers asdfgfdsdfg

well some of the layers are on multiply/overlay/etc but like... those three shading colors, there's one layer for each ASDFGHFDSDFGHJ
it is a lot of work but it's quite fun, i recommend it 10/10 !!!!
although if i could go back in time i'd probably have gone for something simpler since that was the first time i did pixelart in years lmao
