For those who know me IRL you probebly know I am a huge fan of a group of boys from Newfoundland, the band known as Great Big Sea. They sing what is called Newfoundland Folk.. but really I cannot seem to classify it. Recently my roomate and I got to see them in concert down in Seattle. I must say they are FANTASTIC in person.
Anywho! This picture was inspired by a song they did on their last Album "The Hard and the Easy". "The Mermaid" is about a man who is most deeply in love with a young mermaid, but just cannot seem to get over the whole fish tail thing. So, one day when she swims away he is most distrought, untill her sister swims by. With the upper part of an ugly fish, and the bottom part of a girl. XD
Done in Prisma markers over the process of about.... 4 and a half hours. x_x

LOVE that song, and that band. ^_^ I saw them in concert in Kitchener Ontario back in '97. Mind you I found it oddly surrealistic seeing so many people jumping up and down, hands in the air to Ise the By. (My family is from Newfoundland, and that's akin to seeing tons of people moshing to 'mary had a little lamb' lol )
That aside, gorgeous picture rendering of the song, I really love this.

Great pic! I'm a huge fan of Prismacolor pencils, but I've never used the markers before. I always wanted to, though. Of course, since this is a mermaid pic, I'll have to add it to my favs!

Oooo... I love your design of the mermaid. Her hair is such a pretty color green and the sheen on her tail looks very believable. I like the fact that the man is using a sea turtle as a 'pillow'.
