Chapter 2"Get off! What the heck's your problem?!" Rhys couldn't catch sight whatever it was that attacked him. His eyes could only see the comprehensive and detailed design of the flooring, able to notice the reflection of his face but couldn't exactly distinguish the figure, which attempted to keep the hedgehog down. Rhys dwelled in his own thoughts, wondering endlessly in many directions, milliseconds seeming like minutes or possibly even hours. What was he going to do? The hedgehog felt the cool surface touching the side of his right cheek near his mouth. His eyes unbuckled seeing the right side of his face reflecting back at himself in a stare.
The peculiar object catching Rhys' eye was a scarf that appeared in the reflection. Eyes wincing vaguely, the anthropomorphic mammal attempted to see the design and detail more clearly. The expression abruptly altered, to almost an appearance of memory. The pattern of red and gold yellow caused a mysterious reaction in the porcupine's eyes. They widened, swiftly blinking in a moment as Rhys pressed his hands off the floor launching upward. Vaulted, the mammal broken out of his attacker's grip launching up into the air. The rush of the atmosphere brushed up against his whole body, until it vanished in a matter of seconds. Rhys then performed off a flip at the peak of his momentum, landing back on the ground by touching it with his hands and feet.
With his heart rate increasing, he remained in place still with his hands touching the floor and bent down on one knee. The mammal quickly stood up shortly after landing and glanced up for sight of the unidentified aggressor. Mouth opening with a light gasp, he caught sight of a familiar face. The assailant was a lime-furred hedgehog, only having one spike pointing upward from the back of his head, standing a slight distance away from Rhys. The creature's hands remained hidden in his pockets, seeming annoyed by the stunt Rhys pulled off. His aggressor was wearing black pants covering the hedgehog's skinny legs. Posture showing valor and intimidation; Rhys' attacker gave off a slim smirk, staring back at the black hedgehog with bold blue eyes. They looked fierce, unsettled, as if something was amiss.
The eyes wouldn't budge, almost in some sort of trance that didn't appear forthcoming. They looked upward keeping eye contact while Rhys stood upright with arms near his sides. Expression altering to a brawling and determined one, the black furred mammal's hands shifted to fists. Tension was in the atmosphere, neither moving as the anthropomorphic creatures gazed at one another. It was like they were enduring a battle with no actions or any words being spoken. Their muscles tensed, ready for any sort of assault that emerges.
Rhys glanced examining the mysterious yet out of the ordinary coat the lime-furred hedgehog was wearing. It wasn't like the old green buttoned up coat, which was buttoned almost completely slightly covering the young teenager's lip. The coat appeared to be fresh, newly customized and not so old or banged up from use overtime. One detail that seemed peculiar was the way the black stripe went along what should have been the one spiked hedgehog's chest. Near the center, the leather formed an L symbol in a bizarre form of style. The rest of the jacket was a dark green along with the inside of the collar designed in yellow. It appeared to be almost in gold from what Rhys could recognize of it. But what really caught his eye were the red goggles on the mammal's head. The way they were placed and held, it brought recognition into Rhys' mind. He stared back at the young teenager, eyes shifting focal pointing at one another. While they were doing so, the youthful hedgehog didn't take long to make a comment.
"Always trying to ruin my fun aren't you Rhys? I was expecting at least a hello, but I shouldn't get my hopes up and expect that from you anymore." Changing his own bearing of the situation, Rhys' posture seemed to settle. The expression on his face loosened as the mammal blinked in an inquisitive yet vigilant manner. "Well I'm sorry to disappoint ya Lime, but I don't have the time for this." "As usual! What's the reason this time? I'm listening loud and clear." Even though the assailant looked to be in his early teens, the creature's voice was almost similar if not deeper than Rhys'. "I have to take part in a contest and if I win I get to go on a cruise." "On that stage over there?" Lime pointed over as Rhys glanced behind him to stare at the stage.
"Yeah that stage." Rhys, making sure to stay alert, turned his head back at the lime-furred hedgehog preparing for a sudden assault to erupt. "What's this so called contest you're a part of?" From what Rhys could visualize, Lime seemed aggravated and the manner in which he spoke appeared to be skeptic. "It's a talent show." The porcupine murmured enough for Lime to hear. "A talent show? Good luck on that. But we both know who would win it in the end anyway right?" Folding forearms over each other, Rhys glared at Lime as a small portion of the crowd followed by Smash began walking in their direction. "Let me guess you Lime?" "Heck yeah! You know me so well." Momentarily looking past the hedgehog's shoulder, the lime-furred mammal noticed the crowd reaching closer and stretched out his arms and spine by means of over self-assurance. "Guess its time for me to leave. I don't have the time to sign autographs for everybody. Ta ta for now."
Lime walked off in the opposite direction hands concealed in his pockets as Smash approached behind Rhys. The echidna observed watching the recognizable hedgehog disappear within the mass of people in the mall, followed by focusing his attention to his acquaintance. "What did Lime want now?" "Eh same old Smash. I wouldn't be surprised if he came by for another "visit" again." "Well come along then. First you have to try to win that cruise, then you can deal with Lime after that." Both of the anthropomorphic creatures began making their way back to the crowd who were too focused on one of the participants performing to notice their return. "Don't forget the main reason why we're here Rhys." Hearing the statement made Rhys' composure change back to nervousness and appeared uneasy.
His heart pumping like mad, the porcupine's brain filled up with thoughts, ones that weren't assisting, but thrashing down Rhys' self-reliance. Every thought after thought, the confidence continued to shrink drastically, quivering slightly as it felt sadness. Girls' voices echoed throughout the young mammal's mind, for it was unclear what Rhys was hearing inside his head. Multiple influences spoke teasing and giggling as they continued to ridicule the hedgehog. Following along after were more mumbles but they were distinct from the giggles and negative remarks. Rhys shut his eyes with force trying to concentrate his efforts into hearing the mumbles as clear as possible.
Enduring a bit of a struggle, abruptly he sensed the atmosphere underwent a sudden change. A feeling of warmth expanded through his left glove, slowly edging up the mammal's forearm as well as the left side of Rhys' navy jeans. The firm face lightened to a calming attitude taking in the warm energy. The sense of the solid flooring lost the sense of confined air and hardness. Opening his brown eyes, he felt a flash that forced him to shield protecting his eyes from the light. It eventually dissipated allowing Rhys to see once more. What he saw shook him in astonishment as the hedgehog gazed upon the various tropical trees, continuing to glance at the environment.
Rhys stood still, surrounded within a rain forest hearing birds chirping. Sounds of insects passed through the air, while all the black furred mammal could do was try to handle the heat. He could visualize the warm rays in front of him seeing an endless amount of trees and shrubs in the distance. Puzzled, Rhys gazed up seeing the blue sky as clouds were slowly floating by. In a moment, the young porcupine heard a whisper echo overhead. It was breathtaking, almost as if he was jabbed hard in the stomach. But the sentiment stun in a piercing thrust. Rhys stumbled back feeling a shock-wave pulse from his chest spreading through his abdomen. The force quaked expanding to his arms back down to the bottom of his feet. What came next made the young mammal think fast of his wits. Rhys swiftly lowered his buddy the best he could, avoiding the abrupt number of birds flying above the anthropomorphic creature's cranium.
He lost his stability, staggering backward landing on his lower back and rear end. As he fell, his hands made a light thud touching what seemed to be some kind of dirt. Everything seemed too real, the soil felt extremely light even as Rhys rubbed small amounts of it with his fingers. In awe of it all, he sat up studying the dirt more but quickly lost interest. Double-checking the location, he hastily glimpsed over his shoulder on both sides. Rhys noticed a large mountainside to his left, the porcupine's jaws opened observing the sheer mass of rock. The peak appeared to be broad, rigid and full of bumps. Slightly distant from his position, the rock formation still outmatched the adolescent mammal's size. On the right, his eyes noticed diminutive undergrowth and tropical shrubs. A tiny insignificant pool of water was nearby the shrubs, with Rhys now realizing he was in the center of a small opening.
Small patches of grass were scattered on the ground till another wave shook under the porcupine's feet. "Whoa! What the hell was that?!" The ground vibrated beneath Rhys' toes along with the small pool of water. Stunned unable to move from place, the only thing the young furred mammal did was stare dead ahead at the trees. If that wasn't enough to handle, a soft voice echoed elevating his ears to some extent as he tried to make out what it said. Attempting to focus, Rhys heard it more clearly but barely. What he made out was a feminine voice, calling his name in soft whispers. "Who's there?" The voice eventually spoke louder; seeming to sound more distressed. The female voice didn't answer the question, as it only said Rhys continuously.
"How do you know my name?! What's wrong?! Do you need help?!" Rhys shouted using his hands by holding them together near his lips to enhance the volume of his own voice. A sudden pause passed by with nothing being spoken or heard. At last, it spoke again, except her tone expressed a cry out for help pleading out the porcupine's name. Rhys held his hands over his ears trying to deaf the world. His head throbbing, he felt as if his brain would explode at any moment. Rhys heard the feminine voice call out the mammal's name while he shut his eyes. The burden grew too much as it began to overwhelm his strength. Next thing that he knew, everything went by in a flash.
