Skin Provider | CSS Help | Contests around dA

Except for informing you about CSS contests and adding deviations to our gallery every now and then, not much has happened during the past time.
While I don't think that this group really needs permanent action and events, I would like to breathe some more life into it again though.

Mostly I was thinking of giving challenges another try. But instead of doing it just for fun, let's do it a bit for competition and improving.
My idea is to have people to sign up (if they are interested) and then they will be given a theme. Afterwards they have a limited amount of time to get their entry done and then it is up to the groups member to vote who they think did best.
I would limit this to designs only for now, so that winners could get Premium Memberships, and that everyone has the same chance. Later - if there is enough interest - we could move on to doing coded skins for the challenges.

What do you think? Would you be interested in taking part?
Above is just the rough idea and it would be 1:1 challenges, one at a time. They would also be done randomly... not bi-weekly, monthly or something like that.

Beside that, what are your thoughts about critique events (chat, journal) or having another CSS related contest?

If you feel like it, please leave some feedback!
Other than that (even though a bit late): Happy new year!

I usually design by coding (I know, I know...) so I am seconding trezoid . I would be super happy if no image files were involved

It's not that bad at all

The problem would be the judging though. If it is a public voting, I don't think we would get a qualified voting, as most people don't have the knowledge/experience for that. That's why I would stick to designs right now, until we found a way for fair code judging.
Additionally it would be a question of who challenges who. Like when a less experienced coder would challenge someone who has years of experience it would become tricky D:

I think if the skin is functional, people could go off the live preview?

Truuuue but there are so few of us I'm not sure skill categories make sense l:

No, not categories. But I think trying to have two people who have similar experience/knowledge would be the way to go.
There would be only one challenge at a time, to avoid that this gets too confusing and much anyway.

Can I suggest seperate design and code challenge streams? The idea of the competition sounds interesting, but there is a reason I'm a developer, not a designer

Yeah, I want to seperate that, but so far I have no idea how, as it will be tricky to judge code - and it would need people with nearly the same experience to challenge each other. Otherwise it would be a bit unfair. That's why designs only for the start.

If you have ideas of how judging can be done, or of how to assign people, let me know!
