The Archbishop Turpin was a real person, a character in the french epic poem "La Chanson de Roland". When I was sketching this painting the people told me that it needed... I don´t know, priest stuff, that´s why I put red crosses on the background (check the form of it, it are designed as a "Santiago Order´s Cross" -the same that Velazquez uses on his chest in "Las Meninas" painting-). I tryed to gave to the character a sad looking, he´s worried about the future.
