Description
Her head looks a bit off, like... "broken neck" levels of off (would've been better if she was looking the other way). Otherwise pretty happy with this, especially the colors.Related content

Not bad. I want to see more. Incidentally, where is that rim-light coming from? Keep going.

Thanks.
I think originally they were supposed to just be highlights from a light source that was coming from above and slightly to the right, but I think I ended up adding it to places where it doesn't necessarily make sense. At least not in a natural environment. I just wanted to make the character "pop" a bit more.

The pose and costume are really nice! I think that if she were looking directly forward, she would look stronger and would give her pose more direction- as if she is really marching into the snow.

Thanks! I completely agree, and that's something I noticed myself after I looked at it with a "fresh eye", so to speak. Her neck actually looks a bit broken with the position her head is in currently. I don't think I'm going to go back and fix it for this particular piece, but I will keep the positioning of the head more in mind in the future to avoid mistakes like this.

Yes I think it's good not to try to fix pieces when you have finished them. It makes it easier to remind yourself of things that didn't go so well in the past. It would be great to see a rework of this one in future though! I'd just like to say you gallery is an inspiration to me, especially being able to see your older pieces compared to newer ones- reminds me that one day I'll be at the same standard!

I would actually looove to remake this one day as I really like the colors and composition. And that makes me so happy to hear, I'm always glad to hear that I can inspire some people along the way. It's one of the reasons I haven't deleted any of my older pieces, as I always enjoy looking through other people's galleries to see their progress over the years.Β It's very inspiring to see that everyone had humble beginnings, and it keeps me going because I know that if I just put in the hours and practice, I can be as good as them one day.Β Β
I looked at your gallery and I think you're already well on your way! Way, way better than 2012 me. It's also good that you're doing studies, those are very important, and something I'm ashamed to say I've neglected a little. It really helps build your visual library (among a bunch of other things).

Haha we have the same mindset! Thanks for the kind words, I personally think I spend too much time doing studies, sometimes I find it really difficult to summon things up from my imagination. But I guess it's all about experience- I just have to practice doing things from memory too.
