Description
Before the super spy (James Bond & others) it was the Super Detective (like Sam Spade, Humphrey Bogart, The Thin Man ect.). It was the Golden Age of Detectives (1930's - 50's), the private eye, and super sleuth. Here the Poser character James is shooting it out with baddies protecting his "Dame", his favorite blonde Jessica from harm.Related content

lights this scene
A QUICK and EASY lighting
i won't be awesome but it's a FIRST TRy for you
1) LIGHT GAS
I decide (fort the example, but you may edit like you want) there 1 GAS LIGHT behind the girl( RIGHT):
call a SPOTLIGHT (call it 'GAS')
GAS light RIGHT from left and rotate a bit . so GAS light her Left shoulder and half (maybe all)left face
GAS is 5"-6" 'behind ' her
GAS: yellow lite(lite=not heavy)
50-70%
2)Light MAIN
call a DISTANT LIGHT . call it 'MAIN'
(don't forget to cut off first GAS)
in front but a bit from left to the right
MAIN : blue/ grey lite
50-70%
notice
you'll see a distant light don't move easily
and the ground who cast shadow off don't appear in the LAYOUT RIGHT
TRY : cast ON GAS
3) LIGHT TOP
SPOTLIGHT
top of the man and girl ( 2-3 feet)
light their chest
TOP : 86 86 86
80-100 %
4) quick render
all LIGHTS on of course
you'll see: ANY CAST SHADOW for now
do a quick render (low resolution) , DELIGHT, in the window or another window
and look
of course, the art will be bright because ANY Shadow
if a face (man or girl) is not well light, fix GAS or /and MAIN
5)GAS: cast shadow
quick render
if it's correct
make your first render 'high' resolution (3:4 960x1200 )
notice : a real high resolution is 3500x..
maybe You'll have to fix MAIN (scale % down if brigher of UP if darker)
LAST ADVICE: courage!!
you'll have to render, render...
when the render is perfect, do a higher resolution
6) better lighting
if you want a better ;lighting, ANOTHER lighting is required who create the second shadow
but now, try this first TRY
good luck!

okay
I give here ONLY THE RULES
a night scene is more difficult to light than a day light
go!
0- how to pose the light
you call the light with add 'spotlight' or 'distant light' or call a DS light
here, we gonna call the lights manually
1- how to fix the light
cut off the other lights!
for example, there Lights L1,L2,L3
cut off L2 &L3, select L1 and move it (play with the tools rotate, translate)
2-how to know
sometime a light kill another
I explain L1 is on. ok you play L2 and L1 cut off itself!
that means L1 OR L2 is wrong: delete L1 or L2!
3) how to light
we have always to use a MAIN LIGHT (a false light) who light the render (even it's a night scene)
several shadow give life in a render but give some darker the art
so, in a day scene, if 3 lights create the shadow , the scene will be darker instead 2 lights which create the shadow. so, in this case, we have to increase main light
good to know: a distant light used for the shadow give some noises in the scene.

work with 2 layouts :
LAYOUT LEFT: the scene (big plan)
layout RIGHT: the light (what the light is point at)

it's easy!
the questions we have (alwas) ask yourself are;:
#1 day scene or night scene
#2 where is the light come from (even a night scene, there are a source)
#3 how many source? (sun, moon, 3 lamps....)
#4where exactly the lightS come from?
if you want an idea in order to light this scene: ask me. I'll give you an concrete example (don't forget to tell me the answer for this art)

To answer your questions it is a night scene. Coming from the 1930's the lighting would come gas light from a street lamp. There may be moon and star light but in this dirty street corner I don't think they would have much effect. Then there are the other gas lights at the other street corners but their effect would be more important if he were somewhere in the middle. Does that help?
