EintoeRn In reply to Season-5 [2014-10-30 20:11:04 +0000 UTC]

i certainly should ! but:

There's a NY Times cite from 1894 in reference to Hawaii: "Admiral Irwin says the natives are restless and the provisional Government is in a precarious position, an uprising being probable at any time." 6 May 1894, p. 5.

There are numerous NYT articles that use "the natives are restless."

The first cite with "tonight" added is a 1957 cartoon that uses this as a caption. Clearly, it is an cliche by then.

all of these people were moving sort of randomly (for me). i was VERY lucky that there was a moment when they were not all overlapping each other

you did well to catch this moment - the composition is wonderful, and the light on the water of course is amazing - it's a superb shot.

they do seem to be in motion with a purpose about them, nice shot with the waves breaking and then the dramatic clouds, makes for a dramatic shot!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to OdinofOld [2014-03-27 17:19:27 +0000 UTC]

thanks a lot, Bob ! interesting that you see a dramatic sky - and i am glad about it, as i was wondering if i should try to make a bit darker ...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OdinofOld In reply to EintoeRn [2014-03-27 22:53:30 +0000 UTC]

imo the darker the sky the less dramatic the sea, i think with the silhouettes being so dramatic that the sea needs to hold it's drama to keep them real and a dark dramatic sky would take away from the sea. the sky holds it's own with the nice contrasts of white clouds and gray!
it's a very exciting photo as is!!!

The title is interesting, because this is a scene that could have taken place in the Aleutian islands of Alaska, or the South Pacific...or anyplace in between. The silhouettes are indistinct enough for the imagination to insert details of any sea-loving culture.
