Description Autumn was awoken by the late summer breeze drifting through her paper door. As the wind reached her, Autumn’s eyelashes fluttered and a small smile graces her features. Almost a year had passed since she last felt the calling of “The Change” so Autumn was most eager to begin her work.
“The Change” happened every four months yet only those who needed to could hear it. Autumn glided out of her room in a flurry of dried leaves to look out onto the garden before switching places with Summer. The contrast between the two women was astonishing. Summer, with her cranberry-red hair and lush green dress, radiated the warmth dictated by her name, whereas Autumn stood in her long colour-changing dress – changing from yellow to red to brown depending on the reflecting light – had flowing brown hair surrounding her delicate yet strong features.
As Summer left, a whisper of well wishing was heard through the sky signalling the third change of the calendar year. Autumn smiled at the parting words as she looked onwards to her task.
Over the next few days, Autumn took over the garden and many changes were made; the leaves lost their lush colour, the greenery grew weaker and the weather turned colder. Autumn traversed over lands, turning the foliage to a frail-looking ochre as she sent the ground to sleep. As time passed, she magicked the minds of the creatures and they fell into a blissful sleep.
Months flew by and soon Autumn felt very tired. A cold chill settled across the garden and she knew it was time to sleep again. She passed by Winter with her silvery hair – as fine as silk – and clean white gown.
“I wish you well,” came the whisper from Autumn, indicating the final change of the year.
