Description
Here are some busts. (I've been posting them as they were done on my social media pages)I like drawing them. I'm probably opening commissions at the end of next week to help with some school funds (I'm on a short summer break after my exams this week). And they will most likely be busts.
SO. Have some kawaii Project FALL kids. If you've been around for a bit, you should recognize Elizabeth Lento/Eliza. AKA the character's name I steal for my online alias. She's the MC of part 3 of Project FALL.
Next to her is her twin brother Arynn. He's cute. I really hope the fact that they're twins comes across. Being royalty, they've got fine genes working for them. Especially them, as they've got a few royal lines in them at this point....
Under Arynn is Matthias. I've posted him somewhat recently. But he could always use more love. This is probably one of my favourite drawings I've ever done of him.
Someone who hasn't popped up that much is Zacharias (beside Matthias). Zac is pretty great. Even if you somehow did remember the character, I've completely changed his design>_> His hair was pretty lame before. I think the last time he showed up SOLO it was 2008 and he didn't have a name yet. I think he's shown up maybe, 4 other times. Every time looking different.
You know, looking at the four of them, so many things have changed.....Arynn's eyes. Matthias' hair (LOL Zac's hair), Eliza's uniform.
Man, the dynamic between them all probably changed the most. Zac is still a crazy power obsessed loser who killed his dad tho. He fucks Eliza up pretty bad at one point too.
*sips tea*

Matthias looks like he's channeling his inner boy band.
Twins are fun. I have quite a handful of them amongst all of my series. That's also an interesting way to spell Arynn.
So Zac's a bad guy? The gradient in his hair gives it a sunset-vibe.
And even though my focus right now is writing and character building, seeing these makes me want to just draw a bunch of people.

Matthias can be pretty edgy. I should draw him happy for once.
I only have the these twins. I think I used to have a bit more, but I axed them out. It's interesting for these two because they're heirs to the Empire.
Zac is one of many bad peeps. The variety and flavours of bad peeps is vast in this series, but Zac happens to be one of crazily corrupt ones.
They all have gradient hair >_> His hair should be more golden.
I should probably write, but I'm in the middle of exams. So this is all I can do.

I imagine that, when your characters live in a world destined for tragedy, they have good reason to be mopey/sad. I tend to draw Morgan with the same range of facial expressions because, in the books where she's a main player, she doesn't have a lot to be happy about. Association and all that.
Antagonists are fun. Also, yeah, I wouldn't use the word "golden" to describe Zac's hair color. The blonde is more bleach-looking that anything.
School :/ Not my most favorite form of stress (if there ever was such).
How much in general do you think you've written of Project Fall over the last few years?
(also, the bit about probably opening commissions tempts me)

Yeah, Matthias doesn't have the best ride through Project FALL. He's a sweetheart though. I think he just looks more gloomy because everyone else in the picture is smiling>_>
Uhh, like I said, filters. Eliza and Arynn don't have blue hair. Nor is it that golden/pink at the bottom. They're literally platinum blond. So Zac's hair is most like the colour on his shaved side...maybe as light as the long pieces. But the top part is just me being fun with colour filters. Matthias is a lot more red than he should be as well.
I sadly only probably have somewhere around 100k excluding old drafts? But that's including the Novella version of book 3 that I've already written and some short stories. Going back to school really killed my writing drive. Meaning, I haven't worked on it all since starting back in January outside of a couple scenes.
LOL. Well, I'll be posting the info here and on a few other sites when I decide to open them. Which will probably be on Friday.

Poor guy.
The flow of your hair styles I've always liked. And while this doesn't strictly apply to your stuff, the use of gradients in the hair never appealed to me.
100k is still a decent start. I haven't managed much past 3k in a serious draft attempt the past two years because I've so much issues with the very beginning, but I've got a lot more in collective attempts at said beginning. It's hard to keep up the writing drive when other priorities demand to be focused on instead.
I had to sit for a moment and think of what day of the week it was

I only do it on my blonds. Because it gives them depth. I went a little stylistic here though. And honestly, I do a basic gradient with the base hair colour always. ...Probably for the last 4 years? Hard to pick out usually. It's just so the tips are darker (I sometimes do this with the face base too--which I did on these guys too). Mostly because these got Instagram'd and they look better there (attracts more viewers there so my gradients are a marketing tool).
I'm probably about 40-45ish% into the first book. I made massive strides with it last year. I can belt out 1-2k+ words in a serious writing day. But I understand. I have issues with the beginning of my book too, I know exactly what I have to write, but I got tired of re-writing the same thing over and over again, so I just left it and moved on. Better for my writing mentality instead of writing the same stuff for years.
It's Monday

I've tried the method of skipping around to parts of the story I feel like writing before, but for any serious work, I can't tie things together well enough that all the pieces feel cohesive (though part of this is because individual scene structure is a weakness of mine). So I'm stuck rewriting the beginning unless I just want to try out a different scene, which I've done a lot of over the years; it's just that none of those scenes are really all that close to cannon anymore. Ah well. I'm working on picking up a daily habit with other side stories where there's less pressure to "do things right" the first time 'round.
1-2k is a good day for me, too. I'm slow as molasses, but I've learned my stuff tends to come out better when I do it slowly versus rushing it anyway.
I remember at one point you were planning on having your Book 1 out by the summer. 2013, I think?
Meh. Monday.

PF is just so perfectly plotted out that I can just skip to certain chapters and scenes. I have very thorough notes. I don't do it though. I pretty much just skipped to a new arc. Mostly because I wanted to start writing Jillian and them actually leaving the main city.
Hey now. I tried. I ended up re-doing entire plot points instead. It's hard because every time I open something up, I edit instead of writing>_>

Good on ya. That's really great. The closest book to 100% plotted is Book 2 for me, and it's about 75%-80% solid. B1 so far is the worst offender. So much so that I nearly cut the entire thing out to start in the middle of B2, but that screws some of the themes and emotional tensions at work, so it's not a viable option. *le sigh*
I know that feeling.
Are you going to stick with the self-publishing route or try to get it traditionally published?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ElizaLento In reply to BlueAsIce [2016-08-16 02:04:37 +0000 UTC]
That's pretty much the same with PF. I actually spent most of my childhood developing what are now books 4 and 5. But I felt like it really needed to head back to explain things and thus books 1 and 2 were born (but I developed the setting while I was a kid as well--established it alongside it actually). Book 3 is mostly a short book that's meant to be an interlude of sorts (because of the 1000 year gap between books 2 and 4)
I'll try to publish through whatever connections I have (I apparently have them). But I'm not against self-publishing. I might even prefer it. That's something I'll decide when I get there I guess.
I still have to name book 1 >_> (I'm a believing in naming when you're done)

BlueAsIce In reply to ElizaLento [2016-08-16 02:44:13 +0000 UTC]
Interesting. I wasn't quite so consistent with my stuff as a kid. My main series had an entire revamping when I was 17. Not even the characters are really the same as they were previously. Still fun, though. I'm a bit more traditionally split with a Book 1-3 main arc and a 4-6 main arc, and then the arc that is common in all 6.
Whichever works out. (SP is really hard, though, at least if you want to be anywhere near successful with it >_>; those who manage, I applaud).
Why doesn't that surprise me.... :3 Fair enough. I used to name every book/series ideas and chapter headings/the like, but it's gotten a lot harder over the years.

ElizaLento In reply to BlueAsIce [2016-08-16 03:11:12 +0000 UTC]
Well, I did some mythos and character building. Those characters became more like...entities or roles. Eventually, I was 14/15 and sat down and worked out a family tree/established character names to ground them properly. At least, more than they were. Yes, my characters are enough of a clusterfuck that I can fit every main character into a family tree>_> Thanks royalty.
It was originally only supposed to be 2 books. Then I added interlude. Then went "there's no way you're fitting this all into 2 books". So now there's 5. Plus 2 more if you include the sequel series. And then there's side-stories.
>_> And all my other series. I'm going to take a break either during PF and after it to work on The Other World.
I feel like I could market it properly if I did.
My chapter titles are the worst. Examples of consecutive chapters: "The Southern Captain", "Hot and Cold", "Sorry For Being a Desert Beast", "UNTITLED" and "Departure".
I just really want the book titles to set the tone of the books overall. I feel like it's very important.

BlueAsIce In reply to ElizaLento [2016-08-16 03:43:03 +0000 UTC]
You did a family tree all the way from B2 to B4? Isn't that an intense gap of years? I don't know if that's dedication or insanity. Possibly both. I've done/will do trees in the future but a) it's like two/three generations worth and b) well, same reason you've done it; helps establish royal lines and names for characters, the most of which I'll never use, but I still need to know them as the author.
Given the series is as old as it is for you, have you had any particular trouble changing things that have been more or less cannon for years but then need to change/be cut out? I have a process now for when that kind of stuff happens. It's the worse for the main series because it's been around for almost a decade, so certain things have been consistent for years (in fact... I'm kinda in the process of solidifying a near-total redesign of a character whose been the same for that entire decade...).
You totally could market it in that manner. Brand name recognition.
I abandoned chapter title names. They sound too cheesy to me now.
It is pretty important. Getting the title to match the book well is part of what makes it so difficult >_> My current title for B1 is The Wondrous Ones, which I'm pretty happen with overall.

ElizaLento In reply to BlueAsIce [2016-08-16 04:07:21 +0000 UTC]
It's fine when plot helps things along. It's a total of 6 generations or so. But 4 royal trees. I also made a family tree for the Styrens (Jillian's fam) since they're a big trading fam.
I've had it happen. But I'm pretty flexible because usually I feel like the result is worth it. I think the biggest changes came when I started inserting a lot of the god lore. It's grown so complex, but I've been able to have everything mix smoothly. It's usually like I had someone do or act a certain away, but then I work things in to justify it/make it realistic. I think the biggest thing for me recently has been the struggle with relationships in the books? I spent a majority of my life working with het relationships. I've tried introducing diversity over the last few years, but I've been questioning myself about it a lot. I've had to try very hard to work stuff in for a relationship that I won't fully acknowledge in the series. It just makes the two of them look super selfish in their affair. But at the same time, I feel like it fits one of them perfectly.
I think chapter names can be fun. I might axe them too though. I've just always enjoyed them.
It's funny, because I know exactly how I want the covers to look like. But not the book titles.

BlueAsIce In reply to ElizaLento [2016-08-16 05:04:48 +0000 UTC]
Diversity integration into something that's already been a certain way is definitely tricky. I've dealt with this mainly with characters of color (though only in the main series as the other ones are new enough that it just isn't as difficult). It's fantastic when it works out, though. I've been integrating autistic characters, too, which has been fun.
Even if PF isn't the paradigm of diversity by way of sexual orientation, you certainly don't lack for it in your other projects, to be fair. Though I completely understand the drive to essentially "update" things to a newer world view.
What's the general cover concept? :3

ElizaLento In reply to BlueAsIce [2016-08-16 11:58:03 +0000 UTC]
I get a pass for PF colour diversity, since it's very isolated. I show representation via the other races instead of skin colour? You have the topics of discrimination and such, which I've had forever. I hope the lack of colour ethnicity doesn't cause me problems with readers, but it wouldn't be realistic in this series--although it's possible to have them in the last book of the sequel series>_>
Yeah, the other series have it all down. The Other World has it the best, to be honest. There will be one totally revealed relationship in the books, but I plan to leave enough subtext for the others that readers can interpret it/ship it if they want. I'm not so much updating it to a newer view as much as I just want queer relationships in my books for obvious reasons.
Uhh, black and white gradients. With certain objects. I don't think I want the traditional fantasy looking covers.

BlueAsIce In reply to ElizaLento [2016-08-16 18:11:12 +0000 UTC]
Fantasy can get away with certain things more easily than, say, contemporary. I'm also working with an entire world's worth of people, so if I went and made everyone white that'd be cause for some eyebrow raising. And other reasons, too, but it's complicated, so I've just been very aware of possible "unfortunate implications". Given what I've seen of your set-up, I don't believe you have the problems that could come up.
(...*remembers that picture of Angelie on LF*....)
That tends to work well when you don't plan on making romance a major player to everything else (I don't know what you're general ratio is of plot-to-romance).
More minimalist, then? I like minimalist. Used to have really old cover designs *way* back in middle school that used that. They're funny to look back on, now. Depends on where you go to publish, in the end, unless you self-pub.

Mostly all of my books are fantasy or fantasy sci-fi. So it's fun to work with things. But honestly, I have people with green, blue, purple, pink, black and grey skin. I should be fine>_>
Uhhhh. While I don't bring it up often in images, PF and the other series do tend to have romance being a big thing. Project FALL is very much based around relationships and love at its very core. People do stupid things because of it, start wars and even die for it. By the end of book 2, Angelie will be involved with who will later be his wife. This is because I have to establish relationships to get to the characters in the second half of the series. They need to be born and such. I just don't draw the relationships because I want them to unfold during the books instead of me spoiling them all. I'm a huge romantic, so it would pretty much be impossible for me to write a book without it. I think the only relationships I've been open with have been Claire and Akiore. Also Matthias and Eliza.
Yes, pretty minimalist. I might have actual illustrations throughout the book though.

Yeah. I think so, too.
I love working with and evolving all kinds of relationships, whether romantic, familial, or platonic. So I can get behind this.
Also, yeah, it makes sense to keep a lid on most of those kinds of things. Don't imagine that would work in your favor otherwise.
