Well, AnimeIowa didn't have an art jam, so we sat around as a group off in another hotel and drew. and I decided we were going to do a theme of 'demon chicks'. This is mine. I spent about five hours between Saturday night and Sunday on it, putting down as much black ink as I could. Then I 'finished' it with some grey tones from Photoshop. Oh, and yes, that's an beating heart apple in her hand. Anyway, comments and critiques appreciated as usual.

I really like this. It's definately something a little more unusual than the art I've seen you draw/post, and I think it adds more variety to your artwork as a whole. It has a sort of 'dark' feel to it; not like it looks as if it is a dark drawing, but more like the 'Sin City' feel to it.
This is just a quandry on my part, but maybe if you added some color to it it would stand out more. By that, I mean only color specific things in it with a single color. Like, I'm curious to see how it would look if the beating apple heart and her lips were a blood red color; I think it would make it stand out more.

Yeah, I guess I've been drawing alot of manga lately. Honestly, I'm just looking to improve my inking techniques. I've found it pretty hard to get good examples of inks from manga though. So american comics has been my influence recently. I'm just trying to find a way to combine everything that I like into a style I love to draw.
Oh, and maybe dying the apple red or something would bring it out. The thought did cross my mind. I just wanted to make a black and white picture though. Maybe if this turns into a print I'll add a dash of color though. Thanks for the suggestion!

That is one thing I've noticed these past few years; manga doesn't involve a lot of inks. If you want good examples of inking you have to turn to American comics and really study those to get a better understanding of how to ink.
And trying to find your own style is, in my opinion, the hardest thing an artist can do. You have to make it something you enjoy drawing yet at the same time make it look interesting to the "general audience."
And it looks just fine as it is (a black and white drawing). The dash of color was just a thought I had when I saw it, that's all.
